Photographers are always looking for subjects, and in so doing, often choose the street. As Dorothy Norman said, 'You don't have to go fifty feet from your house to find a photograph.' While Street Photography can be practiced anywhere, New York City in particular, is a place that lends itself to the art (afterall, our sidewalks are 18% grey!) But street shooting does require a certain discipline. In this class, photographer Mel DiGiacomo will discuss how to know the light, how to learn the vocabulary of your lenses, and how to put aside the technical aspects and keep thinking to a minimum to keep your shooting instinctual. Whether you are shooting people or things, Mel will get you thinking in different ways to help stretch your photography muscles.

I met Mel probably 20 years ago at a tennis tournament in Ohio. I talked with him whenever there was a break, and after the tourney, he continued to send me photo post cards of encouragement and inspiring photos. This is a great video. Thanks Mel.

Mel Di Giacomo is amazing, as are his talks and his photos. Thank you so much, B&H, for sharing so that we in Europe (and 10 years later) can appreciate it.

Haha!!! I didn't sleep a single second .... Don't under estimate how many lessons are in there ... The one I retain at first is the humility you show... One of the keys for being a photographer ... To my opinion.

Easy answer, Danny me lad. I took it in 1970 during the day. I used a red filter to darken the sky. I mentioned to a mate that I felt the Brits must prohibit people on the site. People were climbing on the rocks, scraping their names in the rocks, dogs defecating and urinating wherever they pleased, etc. Six months later the govt. put up a barrier. The camera was a Nikon, lens 24mm, film Tri X. Hope this helps. It's a unique moment. - Mel DiGiacomo

You are most welcome. We are glad you enjoy our presentations. While we only have our NYC Superstore, we do indeed sell and ship many of our over 300,000 products to Europe. Just shop on our website and pick your country from the drop down box and it will tell you at that point if we can ship the produts you chose to your location.

Truly one of the greats. How often did he mention equipment or exposures? He works from the inside out making the camera less than important. Any five of his images would make my career in photography. Great inspiration from a true artist. Thank you Mr. DiGiacomo.

For daily photography indoor and outdoor, are you recommending xt1 with 27mm OR x100 with fix 23mm? (Priorities: portability as well as quality)
@BandH
@BandH 8 жыл бұрын
+mrz 1342 - Both cameras are great options and will deliver excellent image quality. I personally still shoot with the original X100 and love the camera. In terms of compactness and portability the X100 would be the better way to go as long as you don’t care to add any other types of lenses to it. If you have intentions of expanding your perspective later, the XT-1 is the better way to go. - Yossi

i always answer questions poised by the audience.if you wish to know what speed film i was using,ask.i feel my function at B and H is to teach visual literacy.i know must enough technical invo to get by.you'll learn all you need to know by shooting.seeing needs practice.shoot and study the pictures of those photographers who laid the ground work.try these few.Koudelka,Kertesz,Klein,Brandt,Decarava.

this training was on street photog. like so many others - he has nice pictures but this needs to be more than someone just showing off their photos - how about technique and styles and gear and approach etc. etc. - he did have good sense of humor which is nice - but for training so much more needed - please inform the instructors or presenters to include training not just a presentation - no dialog is needed for a slideshow :) - enjoy B&H sessions but many need to do more training, some do
