Yep it rained and we went into weather delay for lightning in the area, then about 20min in there was a strike close to the stadium and people started filing out 😂. The bands stayed a little while longer though. Props to both for their energy all weekend!

These have been my favorite 2 bands for the last 18 years since I first started tuba, back when southern had fiberglass. Jackson is outstanding and incomparable...unless they go up against SU. It was a good battle, but the arrangements on SU are on another level and that's what it came down to. SU has always been that way though. Great job to both bands. Hoping to be there in person next time.

They didn’t walk out sir. It was a rain delay that turned into a lightning delay. The police forced them to leave. Then the police walked across the field to do the same with SU. It just gave SU enough time to slide another song in. That’s literally it. If it were YOUR child out there, you wouldn’t want them playing a wet METAL instrument where there’s lightning. I then watched the officer with my OWN eyes walk across the field, stop and have a conversation, then proceed towards SU to tell them to leave. It was while he was having that conversation near the middle of the field that JSU was leaving and SU decided to play. When SU started playing, the officer finished up his conversation and waited until they got done to tell them to leave.

Jsu has a good band program but always come up short. I was glad to see a much improved showing this year since they were at home vs what they did on the yard last year in Baton Rouge. I have not read any of the other comments pertaining to the BOTB or the game but JSU lost both in my book. I use to go ham and go back and forth but I'm to old for that immaturity and carrying on cause other's are entitled to their opinions. I will pose rhetorical question though how can your band program better when sonic boom you changed your whole band program format to try and be competitive with ours. JSU use to be a smooth band and juke has always been a power house band with a large brass section and now you all are formulated in like manner. Jsu just never have enough music prepared for the battles nor have great song selections and some of the arrangements are unpolished especially the endings. Much improved JSU you made it interesting but juke is the best in the world hands down and everyone knows it that's why everyone wants to battle and take down my juke.. Being louder isn't the equivalent to being the better band. Good day!!!!!!!!!!!

As a Bama State alum, I had JSU 5-4 with 2 draws (not counting SU's last 3 since JSU couldn't respond). SU hits hard no doubt. And yes I know we got torched by JSU at our homecoming (which had no effect on my scoring). But we didn't repeat against the puppies at A&M at the MCC. Nonetheless great performance by both bands in spite of the weather.

Y’all do this every SINGLE year. 80% of the band world can listen to these battles and say SU won and JSU fans only real argument is everybody is biased and just giving SU dubs. Ima keep it 💯 wichu. Both bands made a few mistakes this weekend. Yet the only Ws Jackson took came from the drumline, like always, and during halftime. Other than that, SU waxed. Musicians at both schools were smashing the entire weekend and even with both sides making mistakes, (mellos in both bands need some major help) you can’t take anything away from the students and their execution. The thing is JSU will never dominate being a consistently less entertaining product. Their arrangements and playing style have Always made them sound like we’re listening to a MIDI file in real life, the exception sometimes being rap and club songs. We can’t be surprised at this point that people choose the band who’s energy, style, arrangements and musicality and go for broke attitude moves them more. It’s like both were handed an assignment and JSU included everything the syllabus calls for, so of course they get an A. But SU always shows up with something more exciting and creative, if a little unorthodox and gets the whole class to clap for em. It goes this way every year dawg 😂 you think they would’ve learned by now.

I gave JSU the W in that poll the next day😂Add to that the fact people are more tired of SU being dominant than Alabama football and the polls aren’t surprising. But listening to the clips gives you the full picture. I’ve watched show style talk, KB and Steven holiday and watched once on my own. It close! Don’t get me wrong that botb was the best performance I’ve EVER heard from the boom. But that doesn’t mean that they preformed better than SU just because that was their personal best. What other creators have you seen judge the battle though? I’m open to hear more points of view. I just can’t be surprised SU is coming out on top in a lot of people’s eyes. It’s certainly not the case that everybody is just biased hell KB didn’t go to SU but you wanna dismiss his opinion after you just heard his reasoning for picking who he picked. That’s what I can’t understand about y’all JSU advocates right now. It’s hard to take the “y’all just biased” argument seriously when we all heard what we heard.

So one quick think KB I agree with you on the Dolls hair being prepared for the rain. Man whoever did the J-settes' hair made sure that joint wasn't coming out even through the storming!!! Now although Southern won the battle of the bands, I feel like they felt disrespected by the crowd that night so they came on extra demon time. Now I'm Drumline guy and everybody knows FunkFactory is that groove drummer that plays the role very nice and ain't gonna do too much but in this 5th quarter, I HEARD them!!!! Golden Stallion was on that HEAVY GAS!!!!! 💨💨 Jackson kinda messed up to me when they tried to switch up the mood near the end. That's fine but that tune wasn't it. Too cluttered!!! Southern just brought more power and distinguishment in parts in their song selection. Am I the only one who thinks JSU should break tradition and go with euphoniums? Their b-tones be hitting but doesn't push as much watts as euphoniums. Listen to Southern and TxSU. You can really tell the distinguishment.

I think with the situation weather it was a good battle but I saw a lot of flaws in both bands. I am a former Jackson State DM and Johnson C. Smith DM. The IIOS. But one of the most important conscience about marching band that we overlook is executing on the field. I also saw a lot of mistakes and lack of energy from both bands. And I think Kobe at you should put more emphasis not just gonna stand battles But also emphasize the fact of the show. We are marching bands not just stand bands. But I love your show and I appreciate what you do for HBCU. But I also think you should look at other schools as well they are some great bands out there I are overlooked . My name is Goldberg. Tbh, I expected more from both bands. SU didn’t bring it like I thought they would and both bands had questionable arrangements and I give JSU the slight edge tbh due to arrangement quality. SU plays so many rap songs and some I don’t even know what they are. And a lot of their ballads don’t have any flavor and sound so plain and sloppy. I love my Human Jukebox but I don’t know about this one for them. Back to the drawing boards. Jukebox fans we have to be honest with ourselves. Having just power doesn’t cut it anymore. We need better arrangements and more execution.
