That is sum chipper . At our local dump they have one that is like a garbage disposal . I have seen it take palm tree cut offs and trees up to 36 inch and spit them out without stopping or slowing down. You can feel it as well as see the ground shake. Thanks for posting.

Have you tried out the 18xp? And would you consider a bigger chipper?

Just curious as to why you went with a drum style chipper opposed to a disc style chipper? Everything I've seen you chip is all hardwoods. IMO, disc style chippers outperform drum style chippers with hardwoods.

@PurpleNovember Well, look at it like this. If you were to chop down a tree with an ax, you would hit it at about a 45* angle, NOT at 90*. Basically, a drum chipper hits the wood at about a 90* angle. A disc chipper hits the wood at roughly 45*. So it goes to reason that a disc style chipper is more effective on hard woods than a drum style. However, IF you have any stringy or fibrous material, (like palm trees) a drum chipper will be the best. I say this from experience as I sold these machines for a living for about 14 years. And I am in south Florida where we have plenty of palm trees. Bandit didn’t even have a drum chipper until the early 2000s.

@PurpleNovember You could go either way. With the disc chipper, if you got a bunch of small leafy stuff, send it through and follow it up with a nice log. That keeps it cleaned out. If you have a chute that jams up, there is something wrong. Wet or sticky material will jam up any chute. And when you get the knives resharpened, pay attention to the angle they are sharpened at. If I remember correctly, the knives are supposed to be at 31*. I once had a shop resharpen them at 33*. That machine would not chip worth a crap. Took me awhile to figure that one out. The guy at the shop didn’t want to reset his machine. Had them redone at 31*, and viola!, chipped like a brand new machine. If I hadn’t been there to see that one, I wouldn’t have believed it. Disc chippers just don’t like palm trees. And if you work in south Florida, you’re chipping palm trees, so I sold a lot of drum style. I could tell you how to make a disc chipper do palm trees, but I don’t want anybody to get hurt. At the end of the day, these are very dangerous machines.
