Akane is such a patient drummer. She never throws the kitchen sink in all the time, she plans her attack strategically like the master she is. And through the entire tune she hardly ever plays the same thing twice, especially with her kick. Yeah she's fast with her feet but she doesn't wear you out with the kick just because she can. The only thing Akane does consistently is change. And this old drummer loves her for that...... Go-Go-rilla!!
@bobespirit21123 жыл бұрын
Excellent point “…doesn’t wear you out with the kick…”; exactly why so much of today’s metal is unlistenable with the double-kick going constantly - just becomes boring and annoying and I’d rather change to something with variety and versatility. Seems she’s studied The Professor and/or other master rock drummers and learned the lessons well - combined with her incredible speed and power - makes for a fascinating and enjoyable listen 😎

@@bobespirit2112 Exactly…and not to vest metal down, but why do all metal guitars have the same “sound” that wears me out. I try to listen to some new Japanese metal but the guitars are all alike. Kanami’s guitar sounds good and it’s always different. I get bored of the same thing all the time….. that’s why I’ve never been married… Lol!

I've been to three of their concerts, not one, three in a week, I chased them all over half of Europe. They in concert are a real shock. I am an old boomer lover of all genres of music, I had not attended such powerful, exciting concerts for decades. I was pressed against the stage in front of Saiki one meter from her I could hear her natural voice directly, Misa vibrated in my bones and Akane killed me, a perfect concert, with a perfect sound setting with a prevalence of bass and drums, these girls they play crazy, and they infect you with their joy of playing dragging you into a whirlwind of emotions for two hours playing like crazy. In some songs, my wife cried for the emotion. I haven't felt similar emotions since the days of the old legendary super bands of the 70s and 80s. If you really want to attend a magical concert run to see the Band-Maid as soon as you can.

Play was originally an instrumental that Saiki convinced the rest of the band to put lyrics to because she loved the song and wanted to be on stage for it. This song was the 21st song of a 23 song set at the Shibuya concert and you watched the 22nd song of that set with "domination" already. Someone below mentioned that Akane made a face at Saiki getting her to want to giggle while singing. They are always making faces at each other while performing to joke around and see if they can throw each other off. You see it in the domination video when they surround Akane. Also, in freedom, they are around Akane again and you can catch her first sticking her tongue out at them and later making a face at them. Enjoyed the reaction, looking forward to more.

They create new live intros to Play periodically. Each one seems to get better and more epic. They just came up with a new one for their May 10 live stream. I was convinced it was a new instrumental and then they finally broke into Play, which really starts on that cool bass lick right before the vocals. Apparently Play was written originally as an instrumental and Saiki thought it would make a good song, so Miku wrote lyrics for it.

A late welcome aboard, Ryan. You are embarking on (along with many others - 115 million YT views!) an awesome hard-rock journey with 5 incredible women. Here's my intro blurb for those who may be new to Band-Maid: BAND-MAID’s songs and sound beat with the heart and soul of all rockers. But you’ll also hear heavy influences of Punk, Metal and Pop, with nice touches of Blues, Jazz, Funk and Grunge. Sometimes they use multiple genres within the same song. Their Composition, Execution, Consistency (over 100 songs with their latest album, “Unseen World”), Uniqueness, Charisma, Charm and, oh yeah, Cuteness factor, position them as becoming the hard rock Beatles of our time! In other words, they’re destined for mega-stardom. Each member's personalities are super interesting and their musicianship among the best. Their writing, arrangements and overall sound, especially guitar tones and drums, are kick-ass! Having seen them LIVE, I can honestly say their performance, sound, stage appearance, and band synergy is off the rails spectacular. Band-Maid is the only band in decades where I love nearly EVERY song they’ve done. I have over 70 favorites! "Thrill" (2014) is a great place to start: kzbin.info/www/bejne/i5XWaJppgpJnorM Their later songs from albums Unseen World, Conqueror, World Domination, Just Bring It, Brand New Maid, and New Beginning drive even more - Warning, No God, H-G-K, Black Hole, Different, Rinne, Blooming, Moratorium, Domination, Clang, Dice, Spirit, Turn Me On, Fate, Play, Hide-And-Seek, Secret My Lips, Puzzle, Glory, Choose Me, I Can’t Live Without You, and on and on. But don’t miss out on their powerful, beautifully written, mid-tempo songs like Daydreaming, About Us, Anemone, Endless Story, PAGE, Mirage and Smile... or more punky like After Life, Don’t Let Me Down and Screaming… or funky like Bubble… or bluesy like Manners and The Dragon Cries… or poppy like Start Over… or a bit jazzy like Wonderland… or cultural like the Band-Maiko series… or instrumentals like Don’t Be Long, Onset, Without Holding Back and Going Nuts! And many are represented with nearly 40 well produced music videos. kzbin.info Most performances should be experienced from their LIVE audience & online OKYU-JI concerts. Tokyo's LINE CUBE SHIBUYA on February 14th (“Domination” kzbin.info/www/bejne/h5PcgnaAo5ulj8k), ZEPP 2018, Shinkiba Studio Coast 2017 and some of the better 2019 tour Fan vids are excellent. Here’s four of what it’s like to see Band-Maid LIVE at super intimate venues. These two taken by Vladimir Chupin in Hamburg: kzbin.info/www/bejne/lZCUpZttmNmag9E, and a fun, wonderful live performance in Amsterdam of Miku introducing "Don't You Tell Me" (with MISA & Kanami's great instrumental exchange) and "Turn Me On” (with MISA's solo intro): kzbin.info/www/bejne/oZe8gqKNd9GGps0. The next one was taken by JT Dayo in LA: kzbin.info/www/bejne/aqasinWhdt6Veas, and finally by JOSER8845 in LA: kzbin.info/www/bejne/q6S6i6mifKx3idU. If you like Band-Maid, make sure to support them by purchasing some concert tickets, CD, DVD/BD & Merch, etc. bandmaid.tokyo Like most Band-Maid songs, I like them from the get-go but really start to appreciate them after more hearings and seeing their LIVE videos. I'll go back and see an older song like YOLO, Order, Shake That, Freezer, Before Yesterday, Real Existence, Non Fiction Days and Alone, etc. and realize there's no band that can consistently construct and play like Band-Maid. For fun, check out an awesome, little known "Mega Band-Maid Mix" by DJ Ray of some of their earlier stuff: facebook.com/djrayboston/videos/1004709499579009 Band-Maid members are: Saiki Atsumi (Sy-i-Key or Psyche) “Ice Queen" - Lead vocals, arrangements and melodies. At 27 and the youngest, “Sensei” (Teacher) as band members call her, has the last word on many musical decisions. High-heels or sneakers, Sai-chan’s smile melts away her sometimes perceived, coldish persona. Saiki’s powerhouse performances, charisma, and voice focus the experience that’s driven her to the top echelon of hard rock frontwomen... or frontmen! Miku Kobato (Me-Ku) "Small Pigeon" - Rhythm guitar, vocals, lyricist, 29 years old. “Koba”, as Saiki calls her, is the Band founder and a firecracker MC & PR SpokesPigeon, po! Her “Magic Spell Time” charm and energy ignite the room. Kuruppo! No, no, no… KURUPPO!! Kanami Tono (Ka-Na-Me) “Princess” - Lead guitar, keyboards, 29 years old, is a prolific writer of most Band-Maid material. Kanami (translates “Song Wave”) is a possessed riff-slayer who’s so damn adorable it hurts. The only thing you want from Mincho is more! Akane Hirose (A-Ka-Nay) "Gorilla" - Drums, 30 years old, band energizer & co-clown with MISA. Achi’s talents include massive consumption of noodles and bananas, of course, (even during performance!) while revolutionizing rock drumming with relentless drive, dynamics and the kick. This “DrumZilla” is the Party! MISA (Me-Sa) "Barefoot Assassin" - Bass, 28 years old. An alluring free spirit driving her 5-string to rapturous low-ends while pulling off surprising counter leads with Kanami, off-stage MISA is the band’s goofball ballerina. Sometimes seen as the Mysterious One because she lets her instrument do the talking, the Assassin literally kills it… every note.. uniting Band-Maid’s world-class rhythm section. A slug of JB, a slight grin, and let the slappin’ begin… MISA! MISA! MISA! The actual song starts just over a minute into this performance, they add in intros and altos in live performances to enhance the concert experience for the crowd! Gotta love the back and forth between Misa and Miku, especially considering Miku has gone from not playing to this! Although having Kanami as a teacher helps, lol! Drive, determination and skill define this amazing band! This song started out as a instrumental, but Saiki loved it so much, she asked Miku to write lyrics for it so she could be a part! Imho, every member suits sooooo well into the whole. That includes Saiki, who BTW is really, really skilled too. (But in a different way than e.g. Floor of Nightwish.) That includes Miku, who is kind of newbie with guitar (that is said without ANY offense!) and an excellent singer too. I actually think: Having clearly separate rhythm guitar and lead guitar is one of the things that make B-M sound so great. It allows musicians to give best without mixing stuff too much, and gives more room for doing great backing vocals when live. Ryan! It is suddenly blowing cold here! I've noticed all along those live concerts some peculiarities about each member's comfort zone: -Kanami will either throw her head back or start a slow dance head low. -Misa will throw her left knee up. -Miku will suddenly move forward as far a s putting a leg on the very edge of the stage. -Akane will suddenly hold her right stick high and hard as a prelude to something very heavy. -Saiki, because being a singer has three different pauses: left leg up with knee square, right hand and head thrown back, standing slightly bent forward with her right hand rested on her right thigh. I think I have belatedly grasped main differences however skilled and enjoyable other bands are: 1- Band maid members are smiling, goofing, laughing and having the time of their life. 2- They are moving all the time as compared to most groups being anchored to a single spot. 3- As the result of 2- they are constantly mingling and sharing fun. 4- During concerts they regularly walk very near (to the point of almost falling into them!) the audience and beyond. No wonder we want to listen and watch them again and again! Keep warm! Best regards, Robert-Gilles

If Ryan thinks about it, he can listen to the songs that don't have videos, and react to the official videos, that way he can get caught up the Band Maid experience.

Yup...and Akane is the most unlikely trombone player ever; it was her first instrument. Kanami started out on piano, as did MISA. Saiki plays keyboards and acoustic guitar. Most remarkable of all is Miku, who basically just held the Rick 620 as an ornament when BAND-MAID was formed.

There are 4 versions of intros made for this song: One was taken down for copyright, but is similar to the second version except that Miku wasn't part of it. This is the second one: kzbin.info/www/bejne/Y6bRn6WPnsqbbM0 What you are reacting is the third one. The fourth one was last Day of Maid (05/10) online concert :)

Lol go ahead and jump in to the catalog, its so deep it could take forever to get to them all doing videos. You could just do videos on the live stuff and new stuff. Alot of the live songs have new intros and solos so you can compare them. Take Play for example, the studio doesnt have that intro and these another live version with a different intro

I'm going to get a lot of flack, but for the longest time, I thought Saiki was the weakest link in the band. She wasn't "bad" by any means, I just saw her as "good enough" or "not detrimental to the band." But then she got nodules and had to go under the knife. It wasn't stated anywhere, but I'm sure she got vocal coaching after that. that's what I did after it happened to me too. I wanted to save my voice. And that's when she turned the table. Suddenly, she was a bit less pitchy live, had a lot more power, range.... And a beautiful falsetto started to surface. It all started around "conqueror", their previous album., Now I really see her as "complementing the band" She is no Floor but she is a really good singer who brings a lot to the band. "Wonderland live" is a great, great vocal track, if you're interested.

Siki had surgery and maybe that’s what you noticed. Saiki says in one of the intervew that she does not need to hold back like before. Also during the other intervew the band all mentioned that when there is something composition of the music needs to be decided, they all let Saiki make the final decision. This is her leadership and also how much the band respect Saiki.

Ok 6:15 did he miss Saiki and Akane making faces at each other to the point that Saiki was laughing in the middle of her lines? Lol
@drvijil3 жыл бұрын
Play was originally to be an instrumental played by Akane, Misa, & Kanami only, but Saiki and Miku heard it being rehearsed, loved it, and decided to make a song of it. Miku ran off and quickly pinned some lyrics and “Play” was born. I actually prefer the 2018 live version better because the intro was more thunderous and heavy. On the earlier version, Akane’s amazing pedal work sounds clearer.

Jimmy Page from Led Zeppelin , saw Band -Maid at a show in Tokyo in 2016 .After the show he wanted to meet drummer Akane Hirose because he loved her playing so much . Supposedly , he claimed she was " like a reincarnation of John Bonham " and sad that " Kanami one of the best Rock drummer right now " . twitter.com/JimmyPageNews/status/798242289596264449/photo/1
