I was hoping to see this again. This young man's "stops" are beautiful. And he's not even trying to be extra crisp. That was perfect. Thank you.

Bob, Thank you very much for sharing this. I still practice and teach the Bando Horseman's form through the instruction of Reese Rigby and Charles Murray. It's great to see these super performances.

Shawn, The forms changed over the years since they were first taught in the 1970's. The biggest change was when they started using the longer bo staff with a flag. The basic structure is still there but several angle and strike changes over the years. Big difference from the original forms with a 6' bo.

Looks like Four Winds, Four Corners, several iterations of Footsoldier and Horseman and then the Mandalay Middle. Is that about right?

i know absolutely nothing about staff form. I s the ribbon at the end of the staff to help stay aware of where the end of the staff is when practicing, or is the snap of the ribbon used to gauge if the strikes are being performed correctly/ the force is being transmitted completely through the length of the staff? I've never seen the ribbons in other videos before. Is it common? It seems smart.

These things are often added just for aesthetics. In a nut shell, the guy thought it cooled cool.

The ribbon was used to distract the horses. It sounds crazy until you realize that was what half of these strikes were against. Mounted enemies. Dr Gyi did not like fluffy anything. He removed the Kung Fu flare, high flying, twirling from any techniques every time in anything he adopted into Bando. Function or zero. You can hear the energy transmitted in his "stops" being received into his body.
