I stumbled across some VHS recordings that I made in 1993. One was from a show called "High Adventure TV" which some great skateboarding clips. The music used in the video was "Vision." So I learned of the band by accident, stumbling across these old recordings. Sincere thanks for the video here - more music to check out. Cheers

Mordred is such a great underrated band that twisted out Thrash Metal with Funk and it fuckin' works.

Brilliant band - one of my all-time favourite gigs was Mordred at the Cathouse in Glasgow in 1991. Support was from Scat Opera, another great band. I remember Mordred got rid of the security halfway through the concert and Scott got the crowd to rip out the barrier at the front of the stage. They invited everyone up to to sit around and be part of the show. I was there in front of DJ Aaron Vaughn sitting listening to the set - just amazing. Also saw them years later when they played in London at the Islington Academy in 2014 - still great.

There's a connection between Heathen & Mordred. Guitarist Jim Sanguinetti was in Heathen during their demo days then went on to form the band Mordred.

Gannon Hall didn't make the reunion. Their new drummer is Jeff Gomes of Fungo Mungo.

Probably the most definitive band in terms of Crossover Metal, along with 247-Spyz: and I underline METAL 'cause there's a lot of crossover band whose got Metal just as one of their elements, sometimes not even the most relevant (Fishbone, Faith NO More, maybe even Living Colour), but they were born as a Thrash Metal band and IN This Life they reached the perfect balance between the Thrash elements (double kick, solos) and all the rest of the classical Crossover elements (slap basses, funky rhythms and even a dj, that for the time was simply avantgarde in Metal).

A few comments. Scott Holderby was not the original singer, that was Steve Skates. The band was started by 3 guys who went to a Jesuit high school...Alex Gerould, Steve Skates, and Josh Juska. There was a drummer but in true Spinal Tap fashion he soon disappeared and I don't even remember his name. Alex Gerould really drove this band, and does not receive enough credit for getting the band off the ground, but the credits on the songs for Fool's Game show "A.G." everywhere. There's one "J.J." credit on Spellbound, which I have to say only made it to the first album because I kept telling Alex Gerould it was too good to drop every time he wanted to make room for something else (the lyrics did get completely re-written after Mordred exited their "Phantom Lord" lyrical stage). About a half dozen times he told me he wanted to axe the track and maybe part of the that was turning over a new leaf after Josh Juska, but I told him it was a good song that should stick around. The funk thing actually first started in garage practices with an old mattress propped against the door to deaden the sound...a guitarist named named Sven Soderlund and a drummer named Slade Anderson were in Mordred at the time (both went to a band called Mercenary later, which is also where Danny White came from so the funk connection flows through), and they loved to play funk off the cuff, which Alex Gerould and Art Liboon really enjoyed. At the end of the practice set, somebody would just call out "Funk!" and they would improvise something. So the funk was there very early on before their first album...and I drove the band's equipment to their very first show at the Mabuhay Gardens in SF in my maroon Volare station wagon, so I should know.

In This Life has been on every electronic music carrying device I've ever owned. It's been one of my all-time favorite albums since I got it in 1991. Fool's game is a good album, but In This Life is a GREAT album. I loved Vision, as well. While I own the Album We Should Not Discuss Ever, I don't talk about it. Lol.

I love Scott, but i think that Paul vocals are amazing and take the music to another level... I get goosebumps every time i hear Splinter Down, and i think that In A Turn is one of my favorite Mordred songs... they are completely different singers It is not necessary to speak ill of Paul, to praise Scott he is a legend by himself
@OldHead4 жыл бұрын
I was explaining why that is a weak album, which is mostly the vocals. I wasn’t “speaking ill of him”.

@@OldHead Sorry i´m from south amrica and english is not my native tongue... maybe i didn´t express well... Anyway The Next Room is my favorite Mordred album (i love them all) and i think that Paul work is amazing... i see you struggling to like the vocals in "Not For You" maybe you could give Paul another chance too... but if you don´t like it because is a not thrash album then it´s ok, but is all the band that change the sound, not only the vocalist
@OldHead4 жыл бұрын
I’m cool with the album not being thrash, and that album is not a bad album at all. It’s just not great when compared to the other two albums.

@@OldHead they should re-record this album with Scott and maybe change a few things, I'm sure the result would be more than great.

Great band I got quite friendly with Scott Holderby and was part of the group who convinced them to come out of retirement and tour the UK. We met up at Newcastle really nice guy. Not sure what the new album will be like. Those reunion albums tend to pale in comparison, apart from Possessed. They said they were chasing the grunge dollar with Kimball and he didn't even want to do it. It was a favour.
@tedpertzborn14803 жыл бұрын
One note, though - Mordred's current lineup is not exactly the same as the line up on In This Life. Gannon has a family and successful career, so he chose not to return.
