Nick explores an obscure compound cutting technique from our short, "Bandsaw Magic." And it is indeed a magical way to create elegantly curved surfaces and three-dimensional shapes with just two cuts on a band saw. Nick experiments with some practical uses for these shapes and in the process, discovers a simple way to add joinery to these magical shapes so you can incorporate them in larger assemblies.
The plans for the "Melting Display Shelves" that Nick creates in this video are available from our store at workshopcompan... . They include FULL-SIZE patterns for the legs, plus two bonus patterns for the Cabriole and Cyma legs that Nick makes for the experimental table in the video. While you're there, check out Nick's book, "Using the Bandsaw." It explains the bandsaw magic technique and a good many more: workshopcompan....

OverviewI had an old Black and Decker Firestorm set that was getting very long in the tooth kzbin.infoUgkxW1vOBRCMrgTCDEijzpVzDWsgI-Jm2iQv so it was an easy decision when this set went on sale. I'm not a pro or a handyman. I'm an occasional DIYer. So for me, this set is fantastic. I am very happy with my purchase. The Good Parts Very well priced for what you get Comes with everything you need - two batteries, a charger, and a carry bag The products feel very well made Not too heavy The drills are small and ergonomic (for my smallish hands) Huge ecosystem - Dewalt makes a lot of tools that use the same battery type and chargerCould Be Better I guess I could say that I wish the batteries were bigger, but that's a relatively minor compaint

After forty years of teaching shop, I finally became smart enough to retire. Couldn't match Grandpa's forty three years. Love your pacing and delivery. Another teacher showed me his "Trick Sawing on the Bandsaw". Was a great filler project for junior high students by making a whale out of some scrap square stock. The only extra machining required was to drill a hole for the eyes. Thank you. This was great fun in many ways !

You're one of the last. When I first began writing about woodworking, there were 17 shop programs at high schools within a 50-mile radius. Now there are 2, and one of those may be cancelled this year. Thank you for your service; I don't see how the woodworking world will continue without dedicated folks like you.

I'm inspired to try this out on my Dad's band saw which hasn't been used since before he passed away in 2019. I fired up the saw last year, and it works, but it definitely needs to be cleaned and adjusted. My Dad left a brand new blade on the table, so I might just go ahead and install it.
