Another great easy to follow explanation of band saw set up. Great for people setting up their first bandsaw and for those struggling with out of alignment problems. It is also a great refresher and reminder for those of us who know this stuff but have neglected checking our saw for longer than we should have. Thanks for another great video.

Just bought a Rikon bandsaw a few weeks ago and the manual said nothing on this adjustment so I used the edge of table to aline to the blade "not as good as your way". I kept looking for good info on this table aline subject but could not find any info on it, no one seems to address this obvious alignment issue when getting a new bandsaw. I am so glad to have found your video it is a much better way of centering the table, not sure why I didn't think of using the miter slot. Anyway this is the baseline that you must start on to tune your bandsaw or all the other adjustments mean nothing. Thanks so much for sharing this over looked first step in bandsaw tuning.

Very nice little video. I'm on the way to my shop to check mine. ****** EDIT 10 minutes later ****** Well, my miter gauge was off by a hair which I fixed. I had just adjusted my fence earlier today and it is within .003" after a cut. I think I can live with that.

I just picked up a used 14” Craftsman BAS350 (Rikon clone) from a pawn shop for $169. It is in fairly decent shape overall. The bearings are not smooth and the top is a bit rusty but it’s better than my stand alone 11” Shopsmith saw. (My girlfriend heard it’s bearings squealing and said it sounded like a dial up modem!) I have already adjusted the miter gauge and table top per your instructions which immediately produced a faster and the smoother cut. Once Amazon drops off a new fence, I’ll align it as well and be off and running. Thanks for the tips!

Short and to the point - a very refreshing that does not make one fall asleep while watching. Great video and good style. I don't have a bandsaw, but if I get one, I now think I know all the things I need to know to set it up (watched Alex Snodgrass several times too). I wonder if the 5-cut method can be used for checking and adjusting the table; I have a feeling it might.
@DavidStanton

Possibly would work but on a bandsaw I feel it would be over doing the accuracy.
@68HC060

For woodworking-use it probably would, but if someone is using the bandsaw for precision things like aluminum or POM, it might be a good thing to do while being at it. At the moment, it's possible to purchase a new Sheppach HBS20 for 120 in Denmark (that's an extremely low price, it normally cost twice as much).

Thanks for the video. I have to give rotating the table a try. My blade is adjusted with gullets centered but still keeps 1° off the table (and mitre slot) and the fence keeps perfectly parallel to the table and always return to that orientation upon tightening. This might be the last hope to prevent jamming.

Hi Dave, on my Rikon 10-325 bandsaw, I can adjust the blade guard. They allow me to adjust for plumb and to rotate the guard slightly clockwise or counter-clockwise. There are four setscrews which are used to accomplish this. I like your tips on checking for parallel on the rip fence and setting the miter gauge square to the blade. Have you tried the five cut method with the bandsaw miter gauge that is used for checking table saw sleds for square or is that a bit much.
@DavidStanton

Bob D. Using 5 cut with a bandsaw is a little over the top as far as I am concerned. I bet there are a lot of people out there who will disagree with me.

Good video Dave. Question: If you have to rotate your table on the trunnion to the limits of the bolt holes, or any amount for that matter, and the table is now square to the blade when the table is at 90 degrees, what happens when you tilt the table on a bevel? Is the miter slot still parallel to the blade or is it now rotated on a plane that is not parallel to the blade.
@DavidStanton
@DavidStanton 5 жыл бұрын
The Trunion is usually factory set Bob. The table SHOULD track correctly through the incline

Thank you so much. I'll be honest and say the I've never even checked my band saw. It was inherited from my dad and moved many times. I'm almost scared to find out how out of alignment it is.

My suggestion is to make a table that fits over your existing one out of melamine. This can have features added to it easier than the existing table.
