Thanks for doing that John. Just so you know, ten fanny hairs is equal to one bush. That's metric though. Dean.

Fanny hairs, always good to learn the correct SI units to use when using a micrometer! ;D

Thanks for making the update John. You are pure first class in doing this for us. My biggest concern was in calibration since so many of us use digital calipers if the standards supplied with the micrometers were accurate enough to use with other tools.

Just noticed this video. I tend to buy mine from junk shops and car boot sales, but then I do have a set of slip gauges to test them all. Oddly just about to publish a refurb on one I bought last week for a pound, will mention you and Bob!

I would like to see some more feedback after you have stripped, and serviced the banggood micrometers, just to see if improves the fell of them

Thanks John, I was curious how the Mitutoyo-styled import clones measured up. I have a 0-6" set of other import micrometers and can't say as I trust them to be spectacularly repeatable. Like you say, these fit the market for someone starting at home but one has to be realistic considering the price point. Hope you're doing well.

Truth be told, it's doesn't matter if they're calibrated to zero when they arrive, provide they CAN be calibrated to zero.

Well you can't be righter than right! It's interesting that John bothers to mention that "X" factor ... if it doesn't "feel right" the job's lost, doesn't matter how accurate they are, if for whatever reason they don't connect you'll find excuses not to use "'em". It's the shortfall of buying on t' internet - you never get to do the touchy feely before you buy.

I bought a set of Chinese micrometers. They looked good but even if you used the ratchet they would never quite read the same twice. I sent them back. John, I was not convinced by your testing. You said they were reading spot on but I could not always hear the ratchet and we could not see what your hand was doing on the knurled end. You should have shown us your hand turning the ratchet, not just the readout

What happened to "trust". If someone was to question your validity, would you get upset? John has shown his worth on his many videoes. By your comments, you are placing his character in question. That may not be your intention but that is how it comes across.

Really? You really think he spend the time to exactly stop at the right time on 0 only to trick us? I don't think so! Here comes the conspiracy. ...and the US don't land on the moon. ;)

At some point, it's a matter of trust. You either trust a reviewer, or you don't. In some cases you 'trust' a reviewer in terms of not intentionally being misleading or disingenuous, but you might question their results based on poor technique or some other 'honest' mistake. I've watched exactly two videos by John (the two on these micrometers). FWIW, I trust him. If you want to use the 'trust but verify' standard, you can't do it with these videos. Much more of a limitation than whether you could hear the ratchet is the fact that you can't know whether the camera alignment with the mic is proper. So if you want to trust but verify, then you'll need to order a set for yourself. Personally, I'll take him at his word and I think his technique is ok for these purposes.

Watch Edge Precision he makes high precision parts on million dollar machines and he uses cheap import mics and he says they work fine for him. Looks like your vernier could use a dip in the solvent tank.

But for 130 Bugs the packaging job is not good enough. You buy the box, so you want the box ok and not smashed to pieces.

Thanks for revisiting that. So the standards are bang on. I don't have an issue with the 25mm one. However, on the 50 and the 75mm it looked to me like they weren't miking up the standards on the ratchet.

Why would he waste his time doing the review again if they were not right he would have said so

@@Davidthomasv8 I've said I think the reviews are honest. I am not calling him into question. The 50 and the 75 didn't look right to me. Maybe parallax. Didn't hear the ratchet.
