This is the old town Bangkok. Skyscrapers and tall buildings are forbidden in this area. The only high building in this area is the UN office, they're just indifferent towards our laws.

Looking back around 240 years ago (since 1782), the old town here looks modern and glorious in its past. The history here makes us extremely proud.

I would say any cities or towns without or no longer has preserved old town or quarters are city without soul or soulless. Fortunately almost all big cities in SEA have a preserved or neglected old town. I will put some of them in each country: * 🇹🇭 : Koh Rattanakosin of Bangkok, Old Royal Quarter of Chiang Mai and Chiang Rai. * 🇱🇦 : Old Town of Vientiane, Luang Prabang, and Historic Town of Phongsali. * 🇰🇭 : Old Town of Pnom Penh, French Quarter of Siem Reap and Battambang. * 🇲🇲 : Historic Downtown of Yangon, Old Town of Mandalay and Mawlamyine. * 🇻🇳 : Old Quarter of Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City and Historic Town of Hội An (UNESCO WHS). * 🇲🇾 : Old Town of Kuala Lumpur, Historic Town of Melaka (UNESCO WHS) and Georgetown. * 🇧🇳 : Bandar Seri Begawan and Old Market in Pekan Muara. * 🇵🇭 : Historic Town of Vigan (UNESCO WHS), Intramuros of Manila and Old Downtown of Iloilo City. * 🇮🇩 : Old Downtown of Jakarta, Semarang and Surabaya. * 🇸🇬 : Old Quarter of Singapore. * 🇹🇱 : Baucau, a small town in northern part East Timor or Timor-Leste which possesed many historic churches and buildings built during Portuguese Colonial Era.

@@coolingthailand I've been there in Chiang Mai, but have no time to visit nearby Chiang Rai, the late capital of Lan Na, it was in 2012. I already visit some of them including neglected town of Baucau. My dream someday I could go to Myanmar.
