I’ve always visited MBK when in Bangkok. It would always be so full of shoppers regardless of the day of the week. You would be drawn along with the crowd coming from the BTS.Sad to see it now. Let’s hope it recovers. Thanks for another great video. Tony. UK. 🙏🏻

It really is sad to see such a vibrant city like this. Keep making the videos, still love seeing all the places I've walked around every year and those that I'll explore when I finally do come back. Thinking 2022, omg how depressing, but then again it's only 11 months away. Let the countdown begin!

It must be a strange experience being in MBK and Bangkok in general with no people around. Very sad. Whenever in Bangkok I always end up in MBK for one reason or another even though I've had a few bad experiences shopping there (one involving gold). I would normally be in Bangkok right now and it's hard to describe how much I'm missing it. Once again thanks for your filming efforts.

@@patnyabangkok7751 I had been dealing with an MBK jewelry retailer for about 5 years. I would provide them with sapphires and they would have their factory set them in 18k gold rings. On the last occasion, I had the rings assayed at the Birmingham UK assay office (the oldest assay office in the world) and none of them were 18k but were assayed at 14k. Also, years ago my 13-year-old daughter spent £40 of her hard-earned savings on a sony music player (pre ipod days). It was fake. She was so upset and I felt so guilty I gave her the money back!

Sad. I love MBK and I hope that Thailand can pull thru this (as well as many other countries worldwide). It does look like they have taken this opportunity to upgrade MBK to put it more in line with all the other malls in the city. It probably needed a good refresh so hopefully this will only be a minor setback.

Wow...this is so sad to see. Puts things into perspective here. I used to always go to mbk, I showed parts to my thai wife, she was shocked. She used to work in one of the smaller outlets when she was younger. She knew loads of people who used to work there. I remember it always packed out with people, you could get anything you wanted there. I am totally shocked, I was under the impression all was going as normal in bkk, but obviously not. Hopefully things will get busier soon. Bri and frei east Yorkshire.

Wow, one of my must visit spots for my holidays and really sad to see the place so bare. When Thailand decides to open its borders without the requirement for ASQ stints (does not make financial sense until then), who would still travel to see places with empty shops etc? It would take months for business owners to reinvest in opening as they need customers and customers need places to visit. I guess we all wait and see what happens? Thanks for the video mate. Must be sad for you too to see what’s happening there.

Just a quick update. I live in Bangkok, MBK was the most increasingly decreasing shopping mall in Bangkok since COVID. Several stalls closed and this January, many simply not renewed their rentals. Phone stalls, souvenir stores, some brand stores also. End of January Tokyu, the biggest store inside with 4 floors also closed. Now it is a ghost shopping mall as mainly it was visited by foreigners and travelers.

Yes, MBK is pretty devoid of customers, but if walk down the road to Siam Paragon that is doing OK. It is packed on the weekends. Icon Siam is also packed on the weekends. The suburban malls, it is business as usual. The Patunam Fashion Clothing mall is not doing the same business as usual as many many customers are from South Asia and other international tourists. The hotels, restaurants etc in that area are suffering. The malls aimed at the Thai middle class are doing OK while the malls that target the international tourists are doing badly. Bangkok is doing OK. Places like Koh Samui and Phuket that are designed, built and run for international tourists are really struggling as one would expect. No international tourists, their reason for existence ceases like mining towns when the ore runs out. Very large infrastructure development going on in Bangkok with new metro rail infrastructure being built, the largest train station in South East Asia just finished, high speed train being built through Thailand and Laos connecting into the PRC, and high speed train line down to Pattaya, large infrastructure facilities being built in the economic corridor between Bangkok and Pattaya. A number of extremely large mixed used developments such as One Bangkok are also being built in Bangkok.
