Finally A proper representation from Bangladesh Perspective. I have been watching a whole segment of interviews and discussions where very little representation of truly knowledgeable Bangladeshis was present. Either some politicians with their own agenda or Former Indian High commissioner Vina Sikri who explains how this connectivity is beneficial to Bangladesh while not saying how this connectivity is going to simply help Tripura and North East more than Bangladesh. While Bangladesh is yet to receive same connectivity with Smaller nations like Nepal and Bhutan. Hope more News channels invite Dr Debapriyo in their programs since he can give an unbiased opinion regarding Indo Bangladesh economy.

And those private businessmen from US, Japan, Korea, China and others, all went there because they can make money there. Not because Vietnamese are the most honest and efficient race in the world. In Bangladesh, it is more important to provide uninterepted and unidirectional production environment/policy than those bankrupcy acts India is so keenly relying on to increasing their EoDB scores. Those increases were not increasing their FDIs. The FDIs they are getting coming to mostly Bombay Stock Exchange and is very unstable by nature.

100% right. Its a mouthpiece nothing more. India claims every win Bangladesh makes. Than builds the worlds biggest fence, supplies narcotics from India, send's trucks loads of arms to terrorist groups, who they probably funds (method used before annexing Hyderabad), has been stealing marine wealth of Bangladesh for 40 years, loses the case in world tribunal, steal shamelessly sends 1000+ thieves to steal the marine good every year. Kills without a blink of an eye innocent Bangladeshi's on the border & never ever judge's those killings nor give justice to those people who lost family members. Interferes with Bangladesh's internal matters as if Bangladesh was a vessel state. Regarding trade between two nations, trade balance is still in deficit where India makes profit & Bangladesh losses 2 billion every year, yet India imposes unfair tariff's on Bangladeshi good's & refuses market access whilst they have full access in Bangladesh. Bangladesh can't trust Prime Minister of India, because no matter what he says, he will always have an excuse to break them as soon as he lands in Indian soil. So if Indian prime minister can't be trusted than who do you trust? Remember few months ago Bangladesh had to close her border & left Indian trucks standing because of trade dispute, India can't even make payments on good even though they have unfair tariff in place. Therefore trade relation with India will sour as no true intention has been shown from India's side to resolve 50 year old outstanding issues. Having patients is one this but to leave issues standing for 50 years is blatant ignorance & arrogance.

Bangladesh has done very well because it took its development very seriously. However, what the business guy mentioned about homogeneity being the main reason they were able to it, this is just not true. This is based on an assumption that absolute government control is how development happens. It's not. It's by creating opportunities for as many people as possible regardless of their religion, language, caste, gender, etc.
@boomlive_in3 жыл бұрын
That's an interesting insight, thanks for sharing.
@energiam8803 жыл бұрын
I haven't watched the entire video yet. But by homogeneity, I'm assuming he means a single ethnicity? I mean comparatively, Bangladesh is much more mono-ethnic/cultural than India and Pakistan, countries that are much larger. But it's an excuse often used to hide their incompetency. Look at SE Asia, they are pretty diverse ethnically/religiously/culturally, and politically. Vietnam and Indonesia are both highly diverse countries from a cultural/ethnic/religious perspective. But they left South Asia in the dust on every socioeconomic indicator. The answer to Bangladesh's success is much more multi-faceted. Ethno/cultural homogeneity meant far fewer ethnic supremacisms/separatist movements and cultural friction compared to India and Pakistan. That's not an argument for ethnostates. It just shows how India and Pakistan have always been terrible at sustaining (key word sustaining) peace amongst different groups.
@SMon20233 жыл бұрын
@@energiam880 yes definitely, I second on the point about diversity being an excuse. Policy has to account for diversity. Effectively creating regulation and impacts that are general enough to function across lines of ethnicity, caste, etc. So policies that decentralize and give greater autonomy to local governing bodies are just one way of making policy generally applicable. Similarly, having autonomous institutions. Bangladesh also has a large diaspora as well. That might also be a major reason why their trade and development are well linked.

Very informative but intellectually challenging narratives. I loved it. May add a few points, however. Bangladesh contributes less than 6% to the total volume of world apptels export whereas China contrbites more than 36%. Thus, the question does not arise neglecting the apparel sector where we still have comparative advantage. The plan should be to continue invigorating this textile sector in an inclusive manner I.e. continue developing both the forward and backward linkages in a holistic manner until we reach that objectives I.e. to earn at least 120 billion dollars from the apparels sector alone in a year. Other sectors, of course, must be developed parallel to the apparels sector as Mr Mutlib has put it so succinctly. Two sectors on which I like to give emphasis upon are Jute and aquaculture of shrimps in which we also habe comparative advantages. For , we have the natural environs to grow the best quality jute and prawns. Tossa jute of Faridpur and Tangail has no competitor. So is the case with the world famed branded Bangladesh White Bottom. Demand of jute and jute products is increasing worldwide as synthetic fibre made materials are very damaging to the natural environment as they are not biodegradable. Jute is. In the South Western coastal districts of Satkhira, Khulna, Barguna, Patualhali and Barisal the Mother Nature has bestowed us with one of the best natural agro-ecological environs in the world to acquacultute prawn and equally magnificent Hydro-morphological support to grow organic and green harvesting of prawns. The Bengal Tiger prawn has already become a prime prawn product but recently it's demand has dwindled because of the pandemic and much higher unit price compared to smaller but much cheaper white legged variety of prawn which is mostly cultivated in Latin America and now even in ASEAN countries. We have just started cultivating this variety on a pilot basis. The result is very encouraging. Very soon we shall be able to earn at least 4-5 billion worth of foreign exchange by exporting this smaller variety which has a huge demand because of its very low price. This variety yields at least five times more than the bigger sized -the Tiger prawn - per hectare. Thus the supply side will be smoothened with a very competitive priced prawns. I am emphasising on these two items as they benefit our farmers directly. Making our rural economy vibrant will make our task much easier to build an inclusive society.
