Mamata has the merit to be outspoken and air genuine concern. Her proposal of UN peace keeping force is positive. Her offer of taking the Bangali Hindus extremely positive. These are messages those oppressed Hindus want to hear desperately. Their lives are at stake. BJP's silene and cosmetic hollow statements raise more anxiety among those oppressed Hindus than solace as these are evasive ways to be oblique on the issue. BJP leaders should not behave as Rajiv Gandhi did over the Tamil tigers issue when the latter deliberately avoided helping that oppressed group. This solidarity continued through October during Durga Puja, one of the most important Hindu festivals. For the first time in years, the festival was celebrated peacefully and inclusively, thanks to the collective effort of both Muslim and Hindu communities. This celebration became a powerful symbol of interfaith harmony, showcasing the deep unity that exists within Bangladesh. It was a reflection of the spirit of mutual respect and cooperation that has always defined our nation. However, not all events have been without tension. One tragic incident occurred when a Muslim lawyer was killed by a Hindu mob after the arrest of Chinmoy. This unprecedented act of violence in a courthouse shocked the nation. It marked the first time in Bangladesh’s history that a lawyer was killed by a mob over a religiously charged issue. Despite the gravity of this incident, the broader Muslim community responded with remarkable restraint. No retaliatory attacks on Hindus occurred, demonstrating the commitment to peace and unity in Bangladesh. Additionally, it is critical to recall the atrocities committed under the previous regime, atrocities that were largely ignored by certain international and regional powers. In 2024, over 2,000 students were brutally killed during protests against government oppression. In 2009, 57 Army officers were massacred at Pilkhana in one of the darkest chapters in Bangladesh's history. In 2013, 250 Hefazat-e-Islam leaders and activists were killed during violent crackdowns. These were significant violations of human rights, yet the Indian government and Indian media remained silent at that time. This selective silence from Indian media and the Indian government is particularly striking. While they now fabricate narratives about Hindus being under attack in Bangladesh, they showed no concern when 2,000 students were massacred, when 57 Army officers were killed, or when 250 Hefazat leaders were murdered. Indian media’s selective outrage only serves to deepen the divide, promoting false and divisive narratives. Instead of showing solidarity with Bangladesh in times of crisis, India remained quiet when it mattered most. What’s even more troubling is how both the Indian government and Indian media manipulate these stories to suit their political agenda. They are now portraying Bangladesh as a country hostile to Hindus, which is far from the truth. The reality is that Muslims in Bangladesh have always been protective of Hindus, treating them as equal citizens, ensuring their safety, and respecting their rights. The false reports spread by Indian media and fueled by the Indian government seem to aim at dividing Bangladesh, breaking the unity we have worked so hard to build. These divisive narratives come from the same entities that supported the oppressive regime of Sheikh Hasina-a government responsible for mass killings, suppression of dissent, and the erosion of human rights. The double standards of the Indian government and media are evident, as they only show selective outrage when it fits their geopolitical agenda. Bangladesh will continue to remain united, despite these external attempts to sow division. We, as a nation, are committed to protecting all our citizens-regardless of their religion or background. Our commitment to religious harmony and mutual respect will continue to guide us. Instead of spreading falsehoods, we urge the Indian government and media to respect our sovereignty and allow us to handle our internal matters with dignity, respect, and care. Bangladesh is united, and we will not be divided by fabricated narratives.
