I think the mentality of this BJP person is the root of all problems in the Hindu-Muslim turmoil in this subcontinent. The problem should be solved mutually by integrity between the two communities. You've to acknowledge that there might be some bad person in Islam who controls a significant mass of the Muslim community in Bangladesh by propagating violence, but you can't blame the whole religion for that "minor" issue. After the government collapse mostly muslims were attacked and looted by the infiltrators. The peaceful community named "Ahmadi Muslims" was largely attacked in comparison to the Hindu community in proportion. So don't judge the whole situation from the perspective of religious scripture. Rather, you should blame some bad persons intended to implement their political intention by using the name of "Islam". So in the end, I would suggest the BJP person study Islam from the perspective of that particular incident, compared to the situation of the then Arabiya in 560A.D and the situation of Prophet Muhammad (Sa.) rather than blaming the innocent Muslims for their religious belief.

Wow before when I used to think about communal mindset in the subcontinent I only often wondered about Pakistan and India every now and then as well but largely had good thoughts about the communal harmony in India but the way the Indian media has been ever since August 5th bringing a communal angle to the issue in Bangladesh, gotta admit Indian urban class seems to only pretend that they’re secular but they have deep rooted communal mentality ingrained in them. Mr.Roy is absolutely wrong in saying that violence following the uprisal on Bangladesh was targetted towards Hindus. He has no idea of the background and the reason for the revolution that happened leading to the ouster of Sheikh Hasina. The publc anger was against all that had to do with the Awami League regime which forcefully ruled the country for over 15 years by manipulating elections in its favour. In the process both Muslim and Hindus were victims of mob wrath.The violence was not basically against Hindus alone. Mr. Roy raised the issue of exodus of Hindus from East Pakistan and subsequently Bangladesh. He appears to be oblivious of the mass exodus of Muslims from India who were compelled to migrate to East Pakistan and present Bangladesh since 1947 .Their traumatic experience remained largely undocumented! Muslims in India were persecuted prior to 1947 and are still being mistreated during BJP rule. The Babri Masjid demolition episode and lynching of Muslims by Hindu bigots at different times are well known facts but overlooked. One should be aware of history when making sweeping and one sided remarks casting aspersions on Bangladeshi Muslims. Such biased discussion gives impression of communal feeling on the part of Mr. Roy.

A good one. Unless one talks to learned ones like Tathagata Roy, perspectives will remain blinded. The question is how to navigate in this complex landscape. CAA is good but it is for politics. The former governor's idea of leaning hard on BD to ensure the safety of Hindus is good. But how does one do it? It leaves the scope of misinterpretations. Someone might say, that unless BD provides safety to Hindus in BD, India cannot guarantee the security of Muslims in India (that is what is happening now) and initiate a process of coercion. An idea like this can be misinterpreted and misused by those who want to use it for their self-interest. I wish the former Governor made some good workable recommendations. I don't have any answer.
