I haven't read any other comments, so I'm not sure if it has already been mentioned, or not, but surely the pedal setup was also going to be a massive task to change over? I suspect that the whole exercise was never seen as being achievable, in the proposed time frame, but was chosen in the interest of TV/Video sensationalism. Please don't get me wrong, I did enjoy the video and look forward to seeing more.

The "proper" way to do the conversion would be to drill out all the welds from the RHD bulkhead and remove it. Then do the same thing with the LHD bulkhead, and then weld in the RHD bulkhead to the LHD shell. Then you just rebuild the dash and steering gear, adding in the right pieces as you go. The scuttle panel would also need to be changed for the wipers as they mentioned.

Got visions of the owner closing the door at £1800 and chucking aside his crutches and giving it a big "yes" and fist pump down on one knee. Unless the donor Orion was rotten as a pear I really dont know why you never started with that one as it was already the better uk spec, the better colour, £800 cheaper and already a uk registered RHD car. The £1800 you actually spent on the first car could have gone a long way towards your costs doing right to to the RHD car and your time could have been spent better.....this was great for TV but in reality a crazy way to go about it both financially and in the thought process. Unfortunately now there is one less RHD Orion out the and the white pepperpots.......total sacrilege. That grey car deserved saving and getting her mint.

Buddy as you say it's a TV show. I get what you are saying. Although they'll often use a scrap car for parts. But like Wheeler Dealers ..which I suspect inspired this show..they do things for editorial reasons. I read on a forum that Wheeler Dealers often ended up selling their cars after the show was made on eBay. That the buyers may not be genuine. Although they insist otherwise. Like a Jaguar they restored went on to have three different owners and kept showing up online. But take it all with a pinch of salt what you see on tele. Especially the news 😅

I owned an maroon F reg 1989 LX 1.4 back in 1995. Bought it for 1250 from a dealer. There was a better one for 1500 in Aberdeen private, but I was on a foreign license so had to go through a dealer. Loved the sunroof as I had it open most long trips. Reason was my radiator had very few fins and the engine got a bit warm when it was over 16°. Never had a problem in Scotland but discovered it was an issue when I went to Bristol once and had to turn on the demister to drop the engine temp. Only rust I had was under the bonnet which with a wire brush and rattle can it was fixed. Had it for about 18 months and got 500 for it. The dealer scrapped it. Was told not to get the Ghia at the time because they had a lot of problems with cracked manifolds.

I knew the obvious like loom, rack and headlights would be different. But it is small details like, the wiper blades, as the drivers side fully sweeps up to the A pillar and the passenger side creates an arc, consequently the scuttle has different mounting holes to achieve the correct effect for RHD. the body shells also had different part numbers and now I see why. time to resume and see what you do next.
