You are the perfect example of how some of the smaller channels on youtube produce so much better content than the ones with millions of subscribers...great work!

Hi Pinstar, I'm on day 12 of my game now and I eventually managed to resolve my starvation issues by building another hunters lodge and gatherer in a open area to one side of my town centre. I know that's not what you recommend, but I noticed a lot of deer herds wandering over this grassland, and my gatherers seemed to keep wandering into that area looking for stuff anyway. At the time I was losing a lot of settlers to starvation so it was intended to be a quick and dirty solution. But amazingly it seemed to work better than expected and I now have over 5,000 food stockpiled and 40 citizens. Incidentally, I read elsewhere that it's best to build two herbalist huts. One to gather the herbs, and one near the centre of population to treat the sick. According to this guide, because the sick collect a herb from storage and walk to the nearest herbalist to administer the treatment its best to have two locations to reduce walking time.

Really enjoying this series, Pinstar. Just got back into Banished in the past week and looked for some strategies better than my floundering-trial-and-error method. You bring much-needed logic to building and resource management. Thanks!

Just bought Banished during the Steam summer sale, and immediately drove my suffering people to the brink of destruction, even though I'd watched a few Banished videos before. As a long-time Civ player I had expansion on the brain! Er, ahem, it didn't work very well... Thanks for your guidelines, Pinstar, which have helped me get a new, sustainable game going. I'm now very curious to go back to my first disastrous town and see if I can turn it around using what I've learned. Cheers!

As long as you have two workers who can still have two more kids that are male and female, it's possible to turn it around. Later on , you can get nomads to join and replenish villager population also.

Great series. Could I suggest you turn weather effects off for these videos so it's nice and clear the whole time instead of grey and blurry half the time?
@Pinstar10 жыл бұрын
Absolutely! I'm doing another round of recordings tonight so I'll turn the effects off starting with the next episode. Thanks for the feedback!

+1 even at 1080p this video was a blurry mess half the time because you were so zoomed out. I was going to suggest not zooming out so far, but turning off weather would work too. Thanks for the tips!

On the topic of incorporating wells into this build, it is both very efficient and aesthetically pleasing to place your well as the center of your crossroads - though to keep things well packed for travel efficiency, the roads going in each direction are better placed coming off of the corners of the well's footprint, like a pinwheel. Just my two cents. ^_^ Loving these videos, they did a LOT to clean up my play and get me past plateauing at around 60 population.

Great series! Wish I had seen your videos 3 weeks ago when I was struggling to get a town started. I think I will start a new town and will definitely use the cross roads method. Thanks for sharing!

The tooltip regarding Herbalists says that they're more efficient in old forests. Going by that logic I'd think that the Herbalist should replace the Foresters rather than the Woodcutters in the forestry complex. Basically you start as normal, finish planting than destry the Forester Lodge and build a Herbalist in its place, letting natural growth take care of the size difference between the 2 buildings. That way you have a new forest that will eventually become old which in turn will maximize the efficiency of the Herbalist and of course keep the Gatherers and Hunters at peak efficiency too, at the expense of wood income of course. Not sure if the extra efficiency on the Herbalist is worth it though, nor whether in old forests there is actual need for 2 Herbalists rather than one. So I leave the above comment as more of a question than a definitive suggestion, but it's certainly something to think about.

These videos have been a great help to a newcomer to this game. I've been interested in Banished since its release and I've finally pulled the trigger in the latest Steam sale and have had 6 failed villages that I've played with based on the tutorial. You've provided a greater depth to the game than I realized, even with checking out other youtubers "tutorials". Thanks so much! The only thing I could ask of you, would be to say "Oh, bother".

"Oh bother" now that would be funny!

the in-game tutorials are useless and confusing strategy-wise. Only good at explaining buildings and crafting, in my opinion. I had one village die after the other before I got to good tutorials, like this series which helped me immensely in putting some planning and strategy in my game. I can't wait to start this same seed using the same strategy, and see if I can succeed :)

How does that second expansion hub obtain firewood? Its not near the market or a stockpile that holds it.
@pixxa377 жыл бұрын
I am wondering about that too. Probably he's going to build it just out of the circle, city-bound, in the next episode
@knexus50393 жыл бұрын
When a house is not near the material it needs , the villager has to walk further to get it. having not seen the future videos , my guess would be that eventually they'll have to cover this area with a market also, or add the woodcutter nearby.
@JCASchorah10 жыл бұрын
What do you do if someone in the forest areas is living alone so an extra worker has a long walk to work?
@Pinstar10 жыл бұрын
Having exactly the number of houses in the forest hubs is not an exact science, but is the best trade-off I can think of. As you stated, it does hold the possibility of a single worker taking up a house and forcing another worker to commute. On the flip side, if I over-built my houses within the hub and had more space for workers than my hub needed and none of my houses had single people in them, now I'm making whomever lives in that extra house commute OUT of the forest hub. Not to mention the extra house would eat up more tree-growing space, which is already at a premium given how many other buildings are present. That being said, I am going to be exploring some techniques for clearing out singles. By waiting until people graduate school to build their houses, I generally prevent single young people from wasting housing space, as there is almost always a young opposite-gender teenager over 10 who can pair with them when the new house is built. So the only source of singles are old people and freak accidents.

2 things, Why dont you grab all the surface iron and stone when you have not much to do? You have lying around, I am just curious. Also why not build a second fire wood cutter?

He gives A map seed on the first vid of the series but when I typed it in was not the same map. Thinking might be because game version # but not sure.

You see, you don't have 1 big city-area and a woodlands area (this is how I do it and the most successful way other than yours I've tried), you have 4 mini-villages instead (or at least so far in the series)
