Great lesson and the scale does sound like a tune! I can see noodling with it to come up with stuff! I was learning this and C Dorian scale yesterday thanks for going further with this😎

Thanks for the comment! I'm planning a C Dorian lesson very soon. I love the way old tunes perch themselves between major and minor scales! Cheers, Tom

@TomCollinsBanjo coming from a mountain dulcimer which is tuned to CGCC of DADD(double c and d) on banjo , scales are a good way to pick out tunes! Looking forward to exploring BanjoQuest I joined 2 days ago!! Have a good day!!

Thank you, Tom! I've been messing around in double C for quite a while, and have been drawn to its haunting, bluesy sound, but have always felt like I could do more in this tuning. For years, I didn't give much thought to scales on the banjo, but this video really opened up some new pathways for me.

awesome Tom. thanks for this video. I am new to clawhammer, just over a year of playing. i have some G and sawmill tunings under my belt, just now getting into double C and this is very helpful. cannot wait to try the scales. keep up the great work.

Well this is weird. Just yesterday I did a "Cluck Jam". I played Cluck Old Hen for over an hour in Sawmill Tuning and just noodled all over the fingerboard trying to incorporate pleasant sounding notes into my clawhammer jam. It was the first time I ever tried that, and I loved it. I'm hooked. I will be joining your Patreon page because I am very interested in the scales that you will develop for non-G tunings. Doing clawhammer improv and jamming is definitely the direction I want to go in my playing. And I also love blues on the banjo. So a big thank you for undertaking your scales project. Also, BTW, a big thank you to Strum Machine. What a great resource for doing hours of banjo noodling. Having a backing track going makes it so much more enjoyable. No human guitar playing would want to play for over an hour while enduring my noodling experiments.

I'm interested in playing banjo in blues music. Are there banjo blues players I can watch or listen to?

To much talking and not enough teaching

Hey Paul...this is a pretty rude comment. If you don't like what I do, that's cool. It's not for everyone. You don't have to watch....and you certainly don't have to take the time to comment!

@ Sorry don’t see where I’m rude just stating tacks put more time into teaching and we can get more out of the lesson
