I did vote for Biden but I am no longer a supporter of him in any way shape or form my eyes have been open and the more I watch this channel the more I grew with her I mean the state of the country the economy and how I'm actually struggling more than with trump and I don't care for him as a person either but I can say I was more financially stable and raises were consistent and what I will say trump kept us safe leaders didn't want to try him so yeah I'm glad I found this channel

With President Trump what you see is what you get. The media made President Trump the bad guy and the media created the good old uncle Joe gimmick for Biden. Anyone who has been in politics over 20 years is corrupt it's just a matter of degrees. The longer they are there the worse they get.

@yoginimichelleh that is so true! I have been canning for years but for the first time I made Cowboy Candy (candied jalapeños) and then I pickled jalapeños! I never canned meat before this year but have chicken and beef canned and more to do. Being able to can is really and important skill most never learned from their elders, but they need to find someone to teach them.

I've gotten so jaded that I wondered if somehow, we are actually paying for those cheap gas prices with more debt that can never be repaid. One of my favorite things when I was deployed to Haiti was watching the mama goats with their kids. Mama would get up on the top of a little hill and baah at her kids, who would jump like springs through the field toward mama. It was a priceless distraction from a horrible situation and I still love goats. Chickens too!

You are so right, Patara! I turned my "programming box" off 4 years ago last month, walked away, and never looked back. I get my "bits and pieces" from folks I've come to respect and trust, like you, for example. I've always enjoyed prepping, but I never had such a burden to do so until 3 years ago. Before, it was for the winter, which goes in cycles of heavy snow/ice storms/ mild and wimpy. It's been kind of wimpy here lately, but I think we're about to go through that cycle again, and have heavy snow and cold temps. Are we ready? I have no illusions--I don't think we ever will be! But I trust Jesus. He said we could ask the Father for anything in His name, and it would be done. I just taught a classroom full of 4 & 5-year-olds that Jesus has the power to give us everything we need. And it's true! We don't have to worry, those of us who know the Lord. We do the best we can, always, and He does the rest. Referring to the feeding of the 5,000 in John 6, I present Him with my pitiful little 5 loaves of bread and 2 puny fish, and He does great things with them!

I've been actively trying to keep my power bill down. My last one was $70. With the money I saved, I bought goodies for my pantry. I splurged a little at the Fresh Market on their Christmas Blend coffee. I'm hoping for a low bill this go round too. I still have not turned on any heat. I use my electric blanket only as long as possible. I turn off all lights in the daytime & do laundry after 8pm, wear layers of clothes. Hey, I'm happy to have extra $$ to spend on preps and plants that produce food. 😊

My son and I homeschool, and while we were reading about William Shakespeare, it said he was raised in a middle-class household. My son was watching and listening to what you said while I threw some curl cream in my hair. When you mentioned the middle-class, he said, "Oh, I know who she's talking about!" 😅 Yes, and it's not us as a single mom making it work on one income. But God provides for us! ❤ I am thankful for what we have. I'd be deep in debt if I wasn't careful, but God has provided 2 paid off vehicles and our home. I am not on food stamps either. God is good. I bust my behind.

My local people are very rural and a few years ago there was an influx of Amish, we all seem to be on the same page as far as being self reliant as possible. Once many years ago a family moved here from a fairly 'big' city and walked around trying to 'educate' us poor hicks. That is when I found out that most of us were college educated, obviously no one walked around saying so. This guy ended up moving his family and many of us think he moved to find someone that could stand his condescension. He had a problem herding us cats. :D

I hit Costco yesterday for the first time in six weeks. The quality of the produce was much improved which is a relief because my garden is done. One cart with no dairy, no unnecessary purchases except Christmas cards, and very little meat cost $497.00. The same purchases two years ago would have been around the $300 mark. The only downside to gardening is the sticker shock when the garden is done and we have to buy produce 😢

My husband is at retirement age and back in June, instead of retiring, he stepped down from management in the oilfield to go back to driving a truck for the same company 4 days a week. He is much happier and a whole lot of less stress. However, we loss a big chunk of his income and I recently loss my job. Thank the good Lord we live on a farm and I have been preparing and prepping the last 4 years. We have our 19 yr old at home going to college, and our 15 yr old homeschooling. Christmas will not be like it use to be and my family is good with that as long as we are together enjoying all the home cooked meals and time to celebrate the birth of Jesus. I must say, even in the midst of all the craziness, it’s peaceful. We know how this is all going to end…🙌🏻

One of those "do it now if you can" things I'm working on is addressing all my health quirks and doing the big "welcome to middle age" screenings. Right now we have insurance and the money to do it, so I am. It doesnt show on a leger, but your health really impacts your ability to get stuff done. I developed a cranky shoulder this summer and it hits me in ways I hadn't anticipated, making me less able to do work around our place, which ups hubby's workload, which I hate. So... take care of yourselves when/how you can. It can only help you going forward, no matter what happens.

LOL...I live in the Communist Republic of Washington State (All Hail our Glorious Leader, Il Deuce Inslee) and our gas prices so rarely go down that with any rare small decrease we Comrades normally know there will always be a new 'tax' or 'renewal' to take up that momentary dip in prices and it will rise again to the previous price or exceed it. So often, they tell us 'It's For The Children' so we are (happy) to comply and accept. If it weren't for grandchildren and elderly relatives living here, we'd have been long gone Patara. Even a medium size dog will be able to alert you to intruders faster than a camera. We have a healer she is only about 50 pounds but she is faster and more alert than we could ever be. She is the smartest dog I have ever owned.

Thank you Patara!! You mentioned SEPTIC and I thought "Oh I completely forgot about the septic!" We just moved here and don't know the history of the septic. We are way out in the country and can't afford to have a major problem during Winter. Weeks ago we searched and found the septic out in the yard and dug around and uncovered both the septic tank and the overflow tank. Today when you mentioned the septic and how we are going into Winter I panicked. I made a few calls and a pump truck is coming at noon from the nearby town 30 miles away to do the deed. It will be $300. We saved $200 just for digging and exposing the lids ourselves! Good thing we have been listening to Patara for the last couple of years and have been saving our money for necessities so we have money in the account for these kind of things. 😁

We are on town sewer so no septic tank here, however, we are having a shut off valve installed this month. If the grid goes down we plan on staying put as long as we can.

I have 5 goat milking stands. Some are 30+ years old and worn out. I bought them at different times from different places. My Dad made my first 1 and it wore out so I use it now as a bookstand in the house. It is very special. Can't hold weight any longer. I like using 2-3 @ a time. Girls can eat while milking the next goat. I have milked many in past but this year will only 2-3 like you. Time and energy are limited and you can't do everything you want. Your goat babies are such cuties. Can't wait until spring for my babies. As for people I learned as a child NEVER let anyone know how smart you are. They become easily threatened. Many unable to think for themselves.

Super adorable baby goats! Well said, Patara. I've been on the receiving end of some of that condescension for my "cute hobbies" and "homesteady" activities or for being frugal and paying off rather than going on spending sprees. Initially, it bothered me, but now I ignore it. I know I'm doing what God wants me to be doing for my family. Thanks for always asking the questions and getting people to think. I always taught critical thinking to my students and told them to triangulate sources and separate the bias from the fact...sadly, it seems that critical thinking has gone by the wayside for far too many these days.

You are right the abilities to live as we were are next to impossible. Their stories of improvement are way off. The price of just insurance on. Homes vehicles, supplemental health, medicine insurance, life ect takes a big chunk of the budget. They have no remorse when they raise the rates. Charging a fee to use your card to buy gas or meals in cafes now add to cost. Rising gas, heating, electric, and food do not sound like recovery to us. The slide out of middle class into poverty is obvious . GOD help younger people with rent or mortgages. Day care and school expenses take another massive hit on financial security. As we are older and have seen all this play out in lesser degrees through the years. We are able to tell this is way worse. I am in my early 70s

Thank you, Patara! Yes, I agree with getting news from varied sources - sometimes you can find the exact same "story" reported on very differently so a wise person can whittle the facts from the opinion by hearing or reading from different perspectives. Remember what's a lovely meal for a spider is horrible chaos for the fly. Anyone with income so large as to be unaffected by the drastic differences in current living expenses as compared to even a year ago might be the ones most taken aback if something catastrophic happens because they may be caught unaware. I pray for the wool to be removed from the eyes of folks who cannot see what's going on - the same ones who want to censor what the public knows are the ones who are like the All-Powerful Oz hiding behind the curtain and operating all the levers and switches, and without wholesome motives I'd wager. Keep on keepin' on, y'all!
