Why? Were you there? Being black is a huge privilege. if someone gives you bad service, and then you scream at them un til they have to call the police, you can sue them. @Ruby star The bank employees should've told her to come back in a couple of days. Instead, they kept telling her to come back on the same day. The bank employee who called the police and claimed she had a gun needs to be fired and charged for making a false report. The jail employees also need to be fired because she was in no way "suicidal." She may have been angry, but she never expressed hopelessness or threatened to harm herself.

She has grounds for a large lawsuit. The fact that the bank knew they were in the wrong and offered a $300 debit card, and a month's payment for her mortgage is very telling. She makes a great witness for herself. She's a former teacher, has a good memory, she's articulate, and is a caregiver to her husband who is a veteran and the caregiver of her parents too. She probably didn't even deserve that gift card. She was probably ranting and raving in the bank and was causing such a disturbance that they asked her to leave. She blurts out that she is going to get a gun and shoot them. That's when the cops were called. The ATM she used undoubtedly malfunctioned so it would take the bank a day to process all of the transactions especially if it was a check she deposited. It had zero to do with her being black. She was a customer there for 50 years and they knew her. She probably gave the police a hard time too. The bank didn't want this to progress so they offered her the gift card even though she didn't deserve it. Bear in mind that the interior of the bank is under videotaped surveillance plus the police have body cams. So, if my suspicions are correct, she's going nowhere with this lawsuit.

The tears have poured out of my eyes. Her physical ordeal would have been difficult for an athletic man 25 years of age, let alone an elderly woman. All of that suffering for $600 and this was the bank's mistake. No one along the line had the courage or morality to stand up for this elder and say "Enough is enough. Let's get this fixed before more unnecessary suffering and pain come to one of our elder citizens." Of course she was in shock and didn't want to talk! How could she not be? How would any of us have felt going through this? @Jonathan Court She was humiliated and dehumanized by a bank she has been loyal to for over 50 years and a policing system that didn't handle the call correctly at all! Midflorida never should have called the police on her. Mrs. Stephenson showed her receipt. Things should not have escalated to call the police! But the supervisor called the police and said Ms Stephenson had a gun, which was a lie! Somebody thought they were going to keep her money! Bottom line, the supervisor saw her race and saw red and escalated, period! Trained behavior that we have rose up against all of our lives!

This affected me deeply. I'm 75 almost 76 year old black woman. This breaks my heart. I see the daily cruelties injustices inhumanities that are being heaped upon my people no matter their age gender or physical or mental challenge. We know that when we call police for help that we are very likely to be murdered by them. When vanilla "people" weaponize the police against us they know that such action could very likely be the end of our life. They do this with malice and premeditation out of their evil inhumanness.
