When the housing bubble broke in the US back in 2007, there were tons of bankruptcies. People owed more on their mortgage then the homes were worth...bad times for many people. On a side note, one thing about fire personnel is most have second jobs. I was in law enforcement and I've yet to get a straight answer as to why fire fighters need to work 24 hour shifts, other than a great contract. Pure jealousy on my part as we were always over worked and treated like crap from our administration. Bankruptcy was certainly not uncommon in police. I'd receive phone calls from creditors on employees that worked for me numerous times....it meant nothing as it wasn't against policy to be bankrupt. Great advice as always. You're a good man.

Thanks Keith, yes 4 days working 4 days off almost every firefighter had a second job. We live in a strange world at the moment and most people can't survive on just one income.

That dark hole. Divorce. Child support. Future that you worked all your life for down the hole. Takes many years to recover for many of us. However, it does pass. For me, it was getting past the resentment and getting to the point where you genuinely hope for the best for the ex wife. That doesn't come easily and takes substantial introspection and work on any character defects. For me, as long as my son is ok, then I am ok. Keep living the dream Les. Always remember, that the most sensible thing you did was to protect your pension, to allow you to live your new dream and help your new family (as distinct from your original one). That was down to you. You made it happen. As the boxer Mohammed Ali said, and I paraphrase - Doing service for others is the rent we pay for using up space on this earth.

A very good friend seen me at my worst and was very supportive and thought I was at the very bottom then some one handed me a spade to dig even lower, that was my ex wife stopping access to my kids. We all need support sometimes I did this video to show support to those who are in that dark deep hole. There is a way out but takes time. Ask for help from others.

Health better now I made the decision to lose weight now lost 24 kilo on Keto diet. Financial because of my decision I have enough to live on, kids sorry to say not good due to poisoning for years from my ex had the desired outcome from my ex me and the kids do not speak but suck it up move on and no more negativity sometimes it’s just best to let go, just like her from the Titanic. Always look at the bigger picture then if you see it then that helps you focus. Don’t just look a year in advance in my example I looked 8 years and my ex looked now now now give me money now. The outcome at Divorce she had another 26 years before she could retire I had 8 years

Working to provide a better future for us when I retired by putting the work in early, that was one of my faults. I got the balance wrong but for the right reasons or so I thought. On a side note les. I've been going to Thailand since 2004, every year except the last year and probably not this year too. Because of all the hurdles you need to jump, what with this covid stuff. I think Thailand will be popular again but I don't think the numbers going will ever be enough to keep things going. I'm afraid it spells the end of the two week millionaires as it was. A person I know of said everything has gone up by about 40% . Too much for most people I'm afraid.

Thanks Brian for your comment, swings and roundabouts here for the last 5 years or so the pound took a big hit on the exchange rate, now that is improving that makes up for inflation here. I have lived on 50,000 baht for a few years now and still afford to live here. Inflation is in every country. My two biggest price comparison's with England and Thailand is Housing and Council tax. My house in a nice area less than 300 pounds per month Council tax would be more than 100 pounds per month so a comparable house in the UK like the one I live in lifestyle would be 1,500 pounds per month plus Council tax of almost 200 pounds per month so that is a saving of hundreds of pounds. So I would say I have hit the lottery living here in Thailand. Thanks for watching

Interest rates went up to 15% and house prices were dropping a perfect storm whilst getting divorced, Stopping work in my other jobs so this would not be taken into account when assessing my maintenance payments to my kids Getting into debt because one wage did not pay for everything, Keep working to pay the bills meant my ex got a bigger payment because of my income. Simple explanation but very complicated situation. I took plenty of advice before I jumped with my decision.
