Rich people trying to buy or steal Banksy's art for "street cred" is the height of irony. His is the art of the people, for the people, owned by everyone and no one. Thanks for this fabulous tour!

Excellent video. Is it true than Banksy keeps a low profile and people do not know who he is or is this an urban myth. Thanks for your wonderful videos.

Yes 100%! He is technically anonymous, but there are dozens of theories about who he is. :)

We got a Banksy in Nottingham over lockdown, and the owner of the building sold the wall it was painted on! I think the bricks are now in a museum somewhere, but not in Nottingham. Seems a shame, but I don't blame the owner really. I bet it was worth quite a bit of money.

For a “tour guide” I’d think you’d know something as basic as the correct title of the pink car. It’s not “long road to hell” as you wrongly say. The correct title is “triumph of death”. 🙄

My favourite Banksy in London is Coutts & Co
@tamarrajames3590 Жыл бұрын
Thank you for this…Banksy gifted Toronto Ontario with a number of pieces. People tried to cut out walls to preserve (and sell) his works…where others were protected in situ. He wanted his pieces to be gifts to the people who live here. We have an appreciation of graffiti as an art form here, and have an annual festival where various alleys are given over to graffiti artists, where people can watch them paint. It is followed by a showing of their works on art walks. I love the whimsy and commentary of his work…but one of my all time favourites was the two bobbies passionately sharing a kiss (i believe on a London street}. It is a valid art form that will be studied by future students of art…and I love good graffiti.🖤🇨🇦
@TheMuseumGuide Жыл бұрын
The kissing policemen are in Brighton! I think they might even still be there. I don’t think banksy cares much about gifting his pieces to the masses- otherwise I don’t think he’d paint on private buildings! If that was his intention, I think public buildings would make more sense. Thank you for watching!
@tamarrajames3590 Жыл бұрын
@@TheMuseumGuide I’m glad the kissing policemen are standing the test of time. Banksy did once say that something interesting and thought provoking was better than a blank wall, and that he felt graffiti was art for the people. He isn’t so concerned if the wall is owned, as much as that it is visible. I know he refused to authenticate a piece where the building owner cut the wall with the piece out of his building, and tried to auction it off. It still sold for an insane amount of money, but he wouldn’t give it the authentification. He once set up on the street, and sold originals for $60., while his prints were going for hundreds, so I do think he has his own ethic around it. Whatever the case…he has definitely changed the way people view graffiti forever, and that is a good thing.🖤🇨🇦

I think, just think mind you, that what happens to Banksy’s art after its f😅nished is totally intentional. Its part of the Art. Here he is. No one knows him, but its clear he sees the world. His work is worth millions, but it doesn’t matter. Jealousy, hatred, entitlement wins out over all of it. His work is slowly destroyed by people who have no clue what the world really is. I love his work. It always make me think too much, as u can tell. Just an old hippie thought.

. I found on (on Chiswick) tucked away from view and also found one on Camberwell, also away from the beaten path. Both probably practice for bigger endeavours, but spectacular nonetheless. Both of which no one seems to be aware of and that's how I'd rather keep it. Their whereabouts are between Banksy & me.
@TheMuseumGuideАй бұрын
Are they confirmed by banksy? There are a ton of pieces that look like banksy’s style in London but are by other street artists. He always confirms his work on his website.
@TenFalconsMusicАй бұрын
@TheMuseumGuide With all due respect, your comment speaks volumes as to why Americans fail at understanding us Brits. Ask yourself this one underlying question: Would Banksy (being the epitome of counter culture) post anything, anywhere that didn't take the piss?. If it makes you feel better thinking the two works I discovered are mickey mouse, good for you. Perhaps my discoveries and appreciation of them aren't important to you, but anything someone took the time to express themselves in an artistic fashion is valued to us. I wouldn't expect you to understand, but I don't fault you either. "A camel can never understand life under the deepest oceans... and that is no fault of the camel's."
@TheMuseumGuideАй бұрын
@@TenFalconsMusic first of all, I’m not American. Second of all, banksy is not in the slightest counter culture, let alone its epitome. No, you did not find secret Banksys. I was being polite. Every Banksy in London is well documented by his own site and by his friends and fellow street artists. You saw some cool stencils. But trying to be patronising and grandiose is cringy. There WAS a Camberwell Banksy (confirmed on his site) on a Main Street last year, but it was nicked immediately.
@TenFalconsMusicАй бұрын
@TheMuseumGuide My mistake. An American would have enough respect to capitalise Banksy's name. No, you're obviously not American. All too obvious I've upset you by mentioning 2 of Banksy's works you failed to mention in your hastily thrown together video. I have several photos of Banksy's work on Camberwell, moments after it was finished. Paint still glistening in the morning sun. People queuing for the bus on Denmark Hill, completely unaware what wonderment is but a slight glance away. "Quote the raven." No, you're but a spectator here. A visitor of limited permission. A mere observer of us, not one of us. Not in the slightest. I wish you all the best with your endeavours here and safe journey home to "not America."
