Little did they know, that by the 1980s, somewhere in some sweatshop, a copy of the episode was being sold in stores.

Yes, I remember engines of eight. My dad was a prominent viewer of the show growing up, and being that my family newly immigrated to the UK at the time, it meant necessities were always put forth. So, toys, entertainment, stuff like that, were always acquired through businesses binning them and essentially paying my family to take it off their hands. Engines of Eight was never a popular show, at least where we went off to. I think it had to do with the fact that Thomas was already the big “sentient train franchise” and before the internet, it was hard to advertise your stuff alongside compete with such titans in the industry without breaking the bank. Either way, I think the whole creation of the live-action Thomas show was a cover up for this entire series. I genuinely believed the whole show was a fever dream concocted by myself at four, and at some point, what I thought was a lost pilot, but, no. With how little there is remaining of the show online, I’m led to believe there was something much sinister going on. For starters, the creator of Thomas detested using live models for an 80’s adaptation, but model trains is what crew members for EOE were dead set on using from day one. Secondly, while the show was filmed with OO Dublo-track compared to the G-gauge ttte, the few up close models they made were the same scale. So, that’s why the cast for the first season of Thomas is so small alongside having ONE TO ONE face sculpts with EOE. They didn’t even hide using Tom’s face for Thomas, essentially another Tom! With the runaway success Thomas the tank engine was from day one, I’m led to believe the British government purposefully put it at the front of all TV’s that way people would associate a model-train show with something other than EOE. Not to mention, a photo of Thomas’ third season shows the grey diesel used in this episode from the back, and ultimately, it’d come to be what they used for “Mavis”. If I’m being honest, Thomas definitely was light years beyond Engines of Eight in terms of quality, storytelling, visuals, and pace. Granted, it probably was an inside job. But still, this conspiracy of mine will always be a fun little story of when train franchises attacked!

The Polish dub had a censored version of this episode, though I've heard TVP3 apparently aired it uncensored a few time at midnight. Interestingly the Albanian dub has this episode fully uncensored, despite having been made in 2007, long after the ban.

Interesting how this was banned in Ealmoin, but still aired in syndication over in SGT Island, Weird considering the subjects it handles, but hey, if you can have HTF air on SGTV in broad DAYLIGHT, when the children are awake, anything's air-able in SGT Island. (Also, I heard this aired nightly on "The Night Block of Fiddle TV" before 2007, just wanted to let you know)
