Heya friends, we're continuing with this series due to the constant requests and we take our war-hardened band of high level companions and family members(40+ strong!), and challenge foes in a narrow valley, somewhat similar perhaps to what the Spartans faced 2500 years ago against the Persians... How far can we push these 'Spartans' in Bannerlord? Soon we'll see!
What prompted this series?
I get asked a lot in my campaign just how strong a small army can be in Bannerlord. So in this episode we take a fantasy trip into another world and time, taking a small breather from my death-match campaign to explore the potential of how strong a hand-picked army of 300 men in Bannerlord can be. This series will show ever-increasingly difficult challenges as I wander the map with my own "Spartans", deploying elite troops into advanced tactics in search of Glory. With some 45 companions and family members, many who are over level 40, we shake our shields and howl our war cries as the enemy closes in.... Enjoy!
Our entire channel is dedicated to helping players improve their field command and if that's your desire, or just want to see huge, dramatic battles, you've come to the right place.
Please comment, like and subscribe if you're interested in more of my ultra-late-game campaign, that may end up ending in utter despair, but that's the challenge of it. Any challenge where success is assured is no challenge at all.
My campaign is an extremely late-game campaign where I am resolved to give no peace to these scum Kingdoms attacking me - seven of the eight have been at war for years, with only Sturgia at a neutral stance. My family of warriors is now large though and with what remaining strength and valor we can must, we stand against the map of Calradia.
Join me on this adventure if you like huge battles, the use of advanced tactical maneuvers and intense Bannerlord gameplay, and subscribe to my channel if you want to follow along. This campaign is very lightly modded:
I use four mods:
Lord Retinue Uptier(Makes the enemy forces stronger, much less peasants and lower ranked troops)
www.nexusmods....
Improved AI Troops(Also makes enemy lords and their armies tougher by giving them a higher daily xp rate. This means you'll routinely face armies with HUGE numbers of the highest tier units, sometimes four or five times the normal amount in vanilla Bannerlord): www.nexusmods....
Death for all: This mod allows you to set the rate at which nobles die more often. I want both a harder challenging late-game but also a more realistic game. If you're cut down with a massive aserai two-handed axe, you shouldn't just be injured 99.9% of the time. It's a very customizable mod so you can just a little more death or set the death rate so high you get several deaths every battle. The number I often like is '10', some deaths but not a massacre of nobles...
www.nexusmods....
I also use the Dismemberment Plus Mod: It's highly customizable and works seamlessly with the new beta(and versions back to 1.28). I thoroughly recommend it if you enjoy carnage!:
steamcommunity...
I've also used Realistic Battle Mod in the past and highly recommend it for Ai and battle realism BUT I find the pace too slow for my taste and the AI is actually rather predictable after a half dozen battles. Still I wanted to put a plug in for it here, it's a GREAT mod and highly configurable. www.nexusmods....
Much of the music and inspiration for this and other videos in the channel are inspired by Epic History TV - probably THE best channel on youtube(and the internet for that matter) covering the Napoleonic wars. With amazing work Epic History TV takes you through the dramatic and incredibly story of Napoleon covering all of his most famous battles. I HIGHLY recommend it.

I believe the 300 Spartans fought alongside 7,000 Greeks. Leonidas used them in the early battles, but dismissed most of them later on, leaving 300 Spartans as the main force, and 700 Thespian Greeks as a flanking and sally-out force. The Persian army was described as "millions" by ancient historians, but modern historians believe the actual force estimated between 120,000 and 300,000 troops of a wide variety of types. Xerxes himself was only halfway decent as a general, counting mostly on sheer numbers of poorly trained slave warriors and a small number of elite troops (the so-called "Immortals") to do the heavy lifting. Leonidas, of course, was a Spartan king and a much better general, using highly trained and disciplined troops. He wasn't the genius at war that every claims him to be, though... If he hadn't dismissed the bulk of his troops, he could have held the pass at Thermopylae for much longer and forced Xerxes to abandon his invasion there or face starvation and horrific attrition from disease and casualties. Sorry, armchair quarterback over here. LOL. Pretty amazing defense there, sir. :)

@gabriele3665
@gabriele3665 3 ай бұрын
Leonidas dismissed his allies because the Persians had found another passage and bypassed the Greek army so keeping his allies would just mean more men would be encircled and slaughtered, thus he sent them back to warn the Greek cities, but the Thespians willingly chose to remain and fought to death unlike the thebans who were forced by Leonidas and immediately surrendered. As for the Persian army being made up of slaves that's definitely not the case. Infact almost no ancient army would rely on slaves. The backbone of the Persian army were free "citizens" let's say, who would form a shield wall for the archers to ideally shoot over, archers were the key element together with cavalry. The preferred tactic of the Persians was to force the enemy to either scatter to reduce casualties from the archers, but making themselves vulnerable to cavalry, or on the contrary to stay close to face the cavalry but thus being easy target for the archers. This tactic however needed not only coordination but also favorable terrain and Leonidas wisely fought in a narrow space to force the Persians to fight hand to hand where the Greeks excelled. Another counter would be to have a more mobile army, like the Scythians , or to be an army with multiple troop types like the army of Alexander the great.

I love your love for this game, it's refreshing I only play Ironman, it's very hard first trying it but as soon as you understand how AI works it's just the same, I mean, yeah Sometimes I lose some battles but most of the time is me knowing the odds but pushing forward anyway Kind of like the disadvantage Yesterday just lost a fight against 2k vlandians, it was a siege I was highly outnumbered and my army was 80% battanian wildlings I was able to use the siege machinery to destroy theirs It was a wall level 3 so ladders were pretty high, ( orcs hall) making them harder to climb however they breached the right side, I had to micromanage but I stopped them Problem was the left side, in the confusion it got unprotected So when I came back it was swarmed by vlandian tier 6 and sergeants I thought it was lost, in fact, I died A voulge to the head and I was out Amazingly the wildlings stood there really good It was so damn close I didn't even fast-forward it I lost, they got 38 units left, mosly peasants It's that kind of moments that make me so fkn addicted to this game It's almost a joke but I play vanilla only, not even 1 mod and I still don't get bored. Anyway awesome video!

I've only done a little ironman and I prefer the brutal difficulty of my self-made, war against everyone campaign, but we're brothers of the same kind, we WANT the brutal challenge, love that challenge and are thrilled when we can overcome long odds. Stay tuned, let me know more stories as they happen and enjoy bud.

Loving your channel buddy. Your career path and life experience definitely showing through here. I've been playing from way back when, starting with Warband and now with Bannerlord. This is one of the better and more informative Bannerlord channels, for bringing some realism to the combat. Just for info I use the RBM mod all the time along with Better Pikes mod. The Better Pikes mod allows you to create proper Greek style Phalanx with it that are highly effective. If you add the Breakable Polearms mod, that can really liven your combat up.

They can, actually they do I only play vanilla and archers literally pick arrows from the floor Skirmishers also pick javelins from the floor It actually makes sense, if not, it would be impossible to sustain a large battle without running out of ammo You can try this claim by clearing hideouts with jav equipped companions As soon as they kill someone give the order to position themselves next to the javs in the floor and you'll see they actually pick them

@@HeadlessHorsemanProductions So its basically a big co op battle made up of different factions from the multiplayyer section when yyou startup bannerlord. How to win sieges in bannerlord. If you’re defending make sure to ambush them before they attack destroying the battering ram and other siege engines. Then simulate. You’ll crush armies 2500 strong with 600 men. If attacking store trebuchets after building until you have 4 at once and enter the battle when all their defensive siege engines are destroyed. Don’t simulate.

Interesting strategy. I think it definitely helped that you destroyed the siege tower and the enemy were only climbing the walls from the right. I usually use bows as opposed to javelins as there is essentially unlimited ammo around the castle, but you are making me rethink that. Your archers did they ever run out of ammo? I thought that was going to be a big issue, but they kept firing. Anyways, excellent job defending. I really liked the way you defended the gate. I think it made a major difference.

Commenting early in the video: the fact that archers never use the crenellations properly is so infuriating as a history nerd. There are records of castles holding out for months outnumbered worse than you were because the archers couldn’t be touched. The fact that the archers don’t use the archer protecting blocks on the walls feels like a massive oversight
@HeadlessHorsemanProductions
@HeadlessHorsemanProductions 3 ай бұрын
Completely agree, but we're at the mercy of the difficulty of coding this kind of thing. They might have just made a 'shortcut' wherein the arrows from outside the castle fired in had a much higher chance of 'missing' simulating the crenellations, but without something like that, not sure the AI pathfinding could handle hundreds of units working on line of sight and then ducking over and over dynamically...
