On a sail from Albany to NYC in 1985 we anchored one evening off Bannerman's Island. I rowed the dinghy to the island and went exploring the island in the twilight. I found a nice pile of bricks inside the castle and sat down and smoked a funny cigarette, hopeful that the walls (not yet braced or repaired) were not going to collapse in on me. It was fun roaming with the spirits and for a little while being king of the castle.

So sad seeing this beauty left to fall apart. I know it would take a fortune to save it and repair but it would be a fantastic place to see in its original glory

I find it so tragic that so many of these magnificent historical structures are simply left to degenerate to ashes. They are important historical memories of time gone by and should be maintained. US is a rich country and should give grants for such projects. Very sad 😢

The word "Pollepel" is Dutch for "Pot ladle" Maybe some Dutch influences in the history of this Island? Interesting video, thanks for uploading!
