You actually can decide the placement of your beast, before a fight, on top in the middle you have your card, best and cash, click on your beast, at far left in the middle, there's an arrow, you can there.

I’m really intrigued by this game. As for the story, eh. It’s a roguelite deck builder, so I understand the lack of story, though I completely understand what you’re saying. Personally, I think Monster Train did a perfect job introducing the story in an opening cinematic upon launching the game.

I think Slay The Spire's card/relic interactions are often deep and fascinating. Nothing wrong with party level-ups doing the same job instead, I just can't imagine something else being obviously strictly better, because StS is amazing. It's just devilishly hard to balance deck-builders so that you *have to* adapt to the RNG but you can still win, but it's also difficult, and I'm always skeptical of newcomers, but hopeful that someone will get it right. (Banners just left EA and I'll probably try it)

Have you tried Gordian Quest? It's pretty aggressively EA (1/4 of predicted content released), but it sounds like this is very similar, but GQ is deeper on most of your key complaints. While all less similar for various reasons, Trials of Fire, Nowhere Prophet, and Chrono Ark are three games that sound like they have a lot more common w/ this than Slay the Spire as well... As someone else who considers this a "Shut up and take my money" subgenre, I'll say it's a rapidly expanding niche right now to my delight... But while Slay the Spire is the most ubiquitously known, it's quite bare-bones compared to a lot of its competition in terms of gameplay... It makes things difficult as people are like "X new entry is so original!" because they do something STS didn't, but really there are 4 other games that did the same thing better. Not a criticism towards you specifically, tbc... No one can play them all and I can see you keep a busy channel, just venting my personal frustrations regarding the phenomenon as a whole, and the obstacles with getting impressions of things short of buying in. The obvious route is to always say "Like STS, but-" because that's what everyone recognizes and thus the clearest analogy for the most people, but leaves me in a place of "Having played those other four games I mentioned, from my perspective, is this doing anything new or better?"

Good review! And by the way, there are armors that provide not only defense. So that part is not that bad:) But total impressions after the game were pretty bad - the game lacks story and progression thru the levels is pretty boring. I agree that fights is interesting part of the game

Honestly for story, I'm just imaging this as the prequel to the wind and the willows Edit: I just realized there are no toads, weasels, moles or rats. I am not pleased
