In this week's Bansko Buzz newsletter, the Lonely Planet blog names Bansko as a must visit city in 2025 for people who are travelling the world and want to explore new places.
Bansko was ranked as the third best city in the Lonely Planet's recent best in travel guide with the likes of Toulouse, Chiang Mai and Palma de Mallorca. It shows the effort the local municipality has done and others to improve the reputation to help Bansko become known as an all-year-round resort.
Also in this week's Buzz:
The local mountain rescue service issues guidance on hiking and visiting the Pirin Mountains above Bansko, and what you should take with you if you're heading up there.
Can I live on 800BGN in Bansko: this question was asked in the Bansko Notice Board Facebook group about moving to Bansko on a budget. A few people had some information and advice for the person asking.
Bansko as a better life than in Great Britian (UK): Nick highlighted a local story that touches on the Bansko Municipality showcasing the town at an exhibition in London to encourage more people from the UK to move to and live in Bansko. Nick noted that there is already an established expat community in Bansko (and in Bulgaria as a whole), so people moving here shouldn't have any issues. However, he did note that the approach they're using probably isn't the most appropriate.
The Chef's House (formerly Salt & Pepper) restaurant is now open. Nick went there recently and tried the chicken kiev and the burger, as well as one or two salads. Everything was good and its a little bit different to other places in town. It's worth checking out.
Baykusheva Mura Restaurant up towards Vihren Hut is now closed. Nick mentioned last week that he spoke to them (or a Bulgarian speaker did) and they said 2-3 weeks they would remain open. However, that turned out not to be the case because he went there this Saturday and it was closed. Looks like we'll have to wait until next year.
