Banyan: generative ambient through switching loops

With Disting EX’s multiswitch algo (6 switches, each with 6 inputs and 4 outputs), you can generate long, melodic sequences with just three voltages. By placing the switches in parallel, so their inputs and outputs overlap, and by adding a few feedback loops, the sequence can get quite complex and unpredictable.

Thanks! I use a Zoom H6, which I highly recommend. Then I do a little EQ, compression etc in Logic.

Cool and Fascinating. I am not (yet) familiar with the Distings, Pamela's or Sweet Sixteen. I have a couple of questions. You appear to have used all 10 of the EX's jacks for the 6 switch inputs and 4 switch outputs. This leaves me wondering how the trigger from Pamela is getting into the DX. Pamela's only has 2 outputs used - [7] to the Disting MK4 and [5] to input 1 on the Sweet Sixteen. I note that the Sweet Sixteen has channels 1 to 6 sliders on max with their green LEDs - lit is this significant? I am assuming that something may be linked inside the case - via I2C or Midi perhaps - or some other method? Please do let us know.

Having looked at the manuals for Pams, DX & Swt16 - What a powerhouse trio they make - all 3 on my wish list. I can see that Swt16 channels 9, 10 & 11 are providing attenuated source levels into your performance sliders at Swt16 channels 13, 14 & 15. However, my 2 questions still remain unanswered by reference to the manuals.

Thanks - and well spotted, I did indeed max out the EX's jacks, so had to send the trigger via Sweet Sixteen, which then transmits it as i2C to the EX. I'm using channel 1 for that, and you can see the LED flashing that trigger. Regarding the other channels of SS: 1-6 are actually doing nothing. 9-12 are feeding an attenuated voltage into 13-16, which are patched to Disting. (I originally planned to input 4 voltages into Disting, later reducing it to 3, so I'm only using 13-15 in this video). Thanks for the great questions!

Yes, that's right - see above. I highly recommend those 3 modules. I leave SS permanently tethered (i2C) to the EX.

@@electrummodularmusic Many thanks for the feedback. I was thinking about a Disting NT but that does not yet have a version of the Multi Switch algo. Two EXs though instead - I may need an imagination upgrade.
