Great to see another video! I jumped on the UV5R bandwagon but I kinda wish I'd have got these. One thing I'm learning fast is that when using equipment under pressure, simplicity is a MAJOR bonus. Even down to stuff like torches. I'm so glad I didn't get a Klarus because as cool as they seem, 3 buttons and multiple modes and setups is more than you want to think about under stress where split seconds count.
@rodster6campingprepper6 жыл бұрын
I agree, the simpler the better for me. Sometimes these devices try to shove too many features in and over complicate it all.
@Bootyhunter19714 жыл бұрын
The good thing about the UV5r, is its dual band, uhf and vhf. Gives you access to frs, gmrs, pmr, and murs which is on vhf. Also vhf works better in the woods and fields than uhf. But the bf888s are brilliant little radios as well.

Had 2 of these. They're ok but u shouldve gotten the uv5r lets u dial frequencies rather than turn thru presets which other people with the dame radion can scan and hear ur comms. Try buying a reporgramming cable and chirp so you can set custom frequencies for safety reasons.

Sarah is Eye Candy. I hope you re programmed them to the UK PMR Frequencies (License Free) and set the power to LOW to keep legal? You cant just take them out of the box and use them on the pre programmed frequencies as they are Licenced frequencies and you will find yourself in lots of trouble

If you were to have 4 radios and since you have 15 channels you could talk on one channel and receive on another, the other person does the same and then it is harder to eavesdrop on your conversations since anyone listening can only hear one part of the conversation.
@tipstricksss14533 жыл бұрын
Are you using them straight out the box? If so they require programming beforehand to either your licensed PMR frequencies or 446 channels. The frequencies they come programed with are illegal to use in the UK. Nice cheap radios good for many things.

Great video very well explained
@drsquirrel006 жыл бұрын
Be wary of the default channels on these, they aren't in legal bands. Best to just reprogramme them to the PMR frequencies. Ch16 should scan the rest of the channels, but with a programming cable you can use this as its own channel.

Don't the emergency services use private digital airwave frequencies now anyway?
@drsquirrel006 жыл бұрын
@@benb6097 It doesn't really matter if you're not allowed to use that frequency bands. Most are still reserved anyway - for emergency use...
@drsquirrel006 жыл бұрын
@@benb6097 It doesn't really matter if the band is still reserved, and I think they still are? They certainly have additional backup reserve frequencies anyway, analogue "just works" and isn't dependant on anyone in the middle so for anyone moving they still have a fallback.
@jonathanmartin48815 жыл бұрын
I'm afraid whatever frequencies you use on these radios they are still illegal to transmit on in the UK. The radios cover a frequency range of 430-470MHz (I think). You could reprogram them to use PMR (446MHz) but even at lowest power the BF-888's tramsmit power is 1W and the maximum allowed on PMR is 0.5W. They also can't be used on PMR because they don't meet equipment specifications: they have a detachable antenna and are reprogrammable. The only ways you could legally use these is to 1) study for and obtain your Amateur Radio Foundation Licence which would then allow you to use them on 430 - 440MHz (excluding 441-442MHz within 100km of central London) or 2) buy a Private Business Radio (PBR) licence from OFCom which would allow you to use them on 449MHz. PBR isn't intended for recreational use though. Sorry to be a pain but it seems that most people either don't know or don't care about the laws surrounding 'walkie talkies'!
@tomcapehart18782 жыл бұрын
You should have better clearer communication if you both hold them so the antennas are vertical instead of at odd angles

Great review, no fluff just exactly all the details I wanted to know. Decided to get a pair. Btw Sarah is super hot!! Oh, and the distance is not as important as obstacles. CB radio signals require direct line of sight to work and also are easily interfered with by power lines etc. On open water with no interference, they would probably still work over 5 - 10 miles or more when it's calm.

If you upgrade the antennas on them to nagoya 701 or 771 the range will improve quite a bit . Also you should get the programing cable and set the frequencies to pmr channels as you can get fined if they are not set to those frequencies if you get caught ( aload of horse crap to be fair) but its better than getting screwed out of money👍 .
