Because there are soooo many people who get to a point where they want the bare minimum for the kitchen, I've decided that all of my meal prep is done at home. Which dramatically cuts down on the misery of camp cooking. I'm not one of those people that wants to do a lot of clean up. These videos help tremendously... Edited to add: I literally have one skillet and one sauce pan 😅

Nice!! I've been doing that too lately. In fact here's another hack that I took from the page of these meal companies...I would get the ingredients for every meal and separate them into paper bags. So when I get to camp, I just take out one bag that has everything for just that meal, cook it then discard. Then next meal, pull out the next bag!

Somehow your video popped up on my feed & Im glad it did. I’ve done this exact same reorganization over and over again. I just subscribed your channel because your audio & video editing is legit. If you don’t mind a critique to your kit, its your jetboil frying pan paired with your swiss army knife cooking utensils. Your gonna scratch up that nonstick enamel off. Maybe a wooden spatula any alternative other than metal. Gonna start binging your channel 👍🏾
@BaptismOverland

Already ahead of you! Not too long after I went with rubber. BUT I also might be saying goodbye to the jetboil frying pan and going with blackstone. A friend of mine used one this past weekend and its so easy to clean and you can use the metal spatulas.

Have you considered moving over to a multifuel stove like the Optimus Polaris to slim down even further? It's a single burner that can run on most fuels universally while being a fraction of the size and weight of the jetboil base camp. Also, you might want to look into Full Windsor for multi purpose camp utensils. They make some awesome stuff such as the magware set which condenses your cutlery into a tidy little bundle and The splitter, which operates as a spatual/knife and spork combo can be attached to function as a pair of tongs just like the Roxon. Ingenious.
@BaptismOverland
@BaptismOverland Жыл бұрын
Love all those. BUT things have changed yet again lol. I actually ditched the jetboil stove and bought a Blackstone. Yes it's bigger but the cleanup is so worth the bulk. No more needing to wash pots and pans and I can pretty much cook on it. That being said I also now just bring the front runner kitchen kit in this video full time because I modified it to fit my Blackstone spatulas and such. I will prob get a pair of windsors and bring the jetboil back when it's just me and it's a quick trip but I'm in love with the Blackstone now lol

What do you think about that rigid set but the newer version where the wheels come off to store the cases better and I think I can use the wheels w the medium size case I’m hoping so then I can use multiple of the thinner one. One of the thin ones for recovery gear bc I’m just starting so I don’t think I’ll need something too big just for a strap, soft shackles, tire repair kit and I can keep shackles on the car
@BaptismOverland

They're great but I stopped using it. It was just too bulky to bring around. But one of my friends still uses that system.
@oneplus2ins
@oneplus2ins Жыл бұрын
Great points but barring weight, you could still bring everything you had at the beginning if you had them packed properly. For example, you can put spices, plates, utensils, etc. inside a full sized cooking pot. All your cleaning, cooking, mixed drinks, and coffee stuffs I'm sure can all fit inside the Rigid box. Just too much wasted spaces. Awesome video though! 👍🙃

How does the jetboil stove do with wind?? Have never liked those single burners for that reason & setting up an independent windscreen is a messy PITA.

Do you still like the JB halfgen? Do you ever wish you got the double burner? I am debating.
@BaptismOverland
@BaptismOverland Жыл бұрын
I stopped using it because we got a Blackstone and now I cook everything on the Blackstone lol. It's so much easier to cook on and clean up after. But to be fair I only stopped using the JB stove not too long ago. So I really like it but the Blackstone just makes everything easier. It's more bulky but it's worth it for us.
@steelontarget
@steelontarget Жыл бұрын
@@BaptismOverland I can see that. I have one of those also, they're great.
@BaptismOverland
@BaptismOverland Жыл бұрын
@@steelontarget Blackstones are a GAME CHANGER. Lol. So yeah once in awhile I'll bring the half gen if we know we won't be using the blackstone but what I don't like about it is that the heat will melt the handle of the pan (I've had to replace the pan a couple of times) and it's just a pain to clean the pan after. So I don't plan to move up to the full gen. It's just a bigger item for something I won't be using a lot. I DO still keep the JetBoil Sumo for water and such. Plus the Sumo can be made into a stove IF I truly need to cook with a stove top. That's enough for us for the few times we will be needing a burner. Helps cut down on bulk.

Not too bad, but still a lot of large redundant (useless?) components, like the huge "ARCTIC" bottle opener. WHY? Anything can be used to open a beer or just buy cans.. Or if you don't carry a BBQ why taking the tools? Foldable utensils are big, 2 (titanium) sporks are just mint. 2 stoves with even 2 different gas bottle systems? However, getting rid of condiments is blasphemy :-)) Cheers from Oz
@BaptismOverland
@BaptismOverland Жыл бұрын
Ok lemme address: 1. No I don't need bottle opener but it's flat and doesn't take up space. So I just left it. It would be the first to go if I ran out of space though 2. The tools have everything I need. When we cook over open flame I use the tongs and when I'm frying I use the spatula. And of course the knife is always needed. Having it all fold up into one unit is the most compact way to have all those. It has a wine opener too which we use sometimes. 3. The foldable utensils can def be replaced. I'm still looking around for something better. I'll update when I replace it but overall not too large as is. 4. I'm not really using two stoves. I'm only using one stove and the other one is for boiling. So one to boil and one to fry. Easy. Better than bringing burners. Jetboil is fast. 5. We are Filipino. We don't use many condiments lol. We will bring the ketchup and mayo but that goes in the fridge. That's why you don't see it HERE. But for spices we only need salt pepper and garlic powder
