Ive worked at some hefty Michelin starred restaurants on the West Coast. Inventing cocktails on the fly is commonly a way youll be tested by top end bars to see if youre qualified to be there. Top cocktail programs will have an incredible list to choose from but the top mixologists can ask you about flavor profiles and put something delicious together on the fly. (None of my bars had blueberry vodka nor would i use it if they did) but that girls got a good bartender in her, she just needs to learn proportions

The worst drink I ever had was the first Martini I ever tried. It tasted like hairspray! It was disgusting. As a teen in the 80s with bangs that defied gravity, I was very familiar with the taste of hairspray and this was just horrid. Almost 40 years later I still have not tried another Martini because the first one was sooo bad.

After watching this new Bar Rescue video, I will never buy these drinks in bars. For me, I will just buy some sodas to drink. Why? I mean, I’ve taste tested for bartenders before, trying drinks they haven’t given to any member of the public before where I gave them some feedback after, and I’ve tried drinks that bartenders have literally made up on the spot. The difference is that these are experienced bartenders at high end bars. These guys know their stuff, so you can trust them to create, on the spot, something good😉

I love Jon but no, you cant tell if a mojito is right by color. Its gonna look vastly different depending on the type of sugar you use. White sugar and youll get the green from the mint and lime, but if youre using a raw demerera sugar its gonna be muddy and dark

Ive managed nice restaurants on Long Island but never drank, starting busing/barbacking at age 12 , I remember trying a Dr. Pepper the original way, dropping a shot of amaretto liqueur in a beer mug, and its amazing that you don't taste the alcohol and it just tastes like a real Dr.Pepper..

If I didn't have time to properly train employees, I think the absolute last thing I would do is create a bunch of weird sounding drinks that they had no chance of remembering how to make, since they aren't trained. Stick with stuff they can actually Google if they need to. Once they get that down, then you can get creative... and even then the only thing you should create is a way to get them trained.
