Regardless of results, wins, and titles, James is the most gifted person to ride a MX bike so far in the sport. He changed the way bikes are ridden and showed the world what is possible. Jeremy changed it when he was riding, and James was next. Nobody else has brought anything new that hasn't been done. Now everyone rides like James. Just rifined.

Dave Hilton You hit the nail on the head. Just look at MX and SX before Stewart came on the scene no one rode like that . Stats wise Stewart will never be the greatest but technically he is the most gifted person to put his leg over a motocross bike. Everyone wants to ride like Bubba.

Sorry this is late but I had to chime in. Very true. During one of the supercross seasons I remember them saying something about how if he didn't crash he had a 90% chance of winning every race. That dude raced his ass off. He had to start taking it easy the past few years .

LOL....when RC was racing 125s...did the top factory 250 riders come down to watch him practice...or watch his heat rates to see his line, and just see what he would do? No way. When Stew was on 125s....ALL the top 250s guys would stop what they were doing...to watch him practice and race. That never happened before, and will never happen again. Ask someone like DV (one of the few to beat McGrath straight up in SX) about Stew vs RC.

I’d say McGrath was in 06. Had his farewell tour going on a CR250. Until he pulled the hole shot in Phoenix, then he magically switched to a 4 stroke the next round. I guess a Honda couldn’t have the CR250 beating their expensive CRF450. Crazy how that worked.

Great battle with Roncada/Stewart in the last race. "I can't shave until I win." 3 year later, he was placed on a terrorist watch list. :) He was a very smoooooth SX racer. Prescription pain killers, (for a injured back), that are easy to get addicted to, had a very adverse effect on his carer.

It's too bad James never learned to calm his nerves and eagerness down a notch for the bigger picture. I think it would have helped him avoid many crashes and win more races/titles. He certainly had the capability of going on to beat ALL the records. I still admire him more than any other rider, however, because, when he is not crashing, he is the fastest man on two wheels, and can do countless other things in motocross/supercross that no one, including Ricky Carmichael have ever been able to do!
@snowzZzZz
@snowzZzZz 7 жыл бұрын
Agreed. That was his only downfall, watching him ride he was always incredibly smooth and stylish at even the most absurd of speeds, Carmichael just knew the line of risk versus reward a little better, and it cost Stewart in the form of injuries that set him back in every aspect. James Stewart is every bit if not more skilled than Ricky, I think ricky was just a smarter racer who knew where to push it with the least amount of risk.

Remember when RC turned Pro, how everybody said how "wreck-less" he was? He earned that label for his first 125 regional series, (but could win races), and he retired over 10 years later only missing one series due to a knee injury, (outstanding). He retired his entire Pro career with over a 83% win average I believe, and that is a better record than any other individual or team in any official sport anywhere in the world through out man's history on Earth,-------accept for one Bicycle racer from Europe who won about 400 of 415 races, and later became a co-founder of Indian Motorcycles in Springfield Ill. USA. Yes, the USA used to attract and produce the best. HOW ABOUT THOSE "MX OF N" 2017 RESULTS!!!!!??? Will our youth not know what greatness is,----ever?

If you only see him as king of crash, you obviously know very little about him. Not only did he changed the style of racing forever, but he was capable of being consistent, he just had a lot of bad luck with injuries, and had a tendency to ride over the limit. That being said, you can't win a perfect season in outdoors and not be consistent, he just had a lot of setbacks. Regardless of what his stats say, he changed the sport.
@EarthSurferUSA
@EarthSurferUSA 6 жыл бұрын
Sam Man: Injuries/crashes did hold him back, but he had the potential for sure. In these days, he was beating the 250 lap times on his 125 (indoors and out) on a regular basis. Still, second all time winner is pretty legendary. If he only would have gotten injured as much as McGrath and RC combined, (both very little injuries their entire pro career), he would have been right up there for both SX and MX Goatsmanship. I also think the government drug police took a title away from him also, along with the rest of his career. We seem to forget that sabotage of his career.

while I agree that RC had a much more successful career, saying "RC is LIGHT YEARS above JS7" is bullshit. James Stewart is still the only other rider to ride a perfect season, 3 supercross titles and a moto championship in the premier class. He introduced the scrub that gives every moto rider an erection, which people love to forget. JS7 will be known as one of the greatest riders the sport has ever seen. It's a shame the latter half of his career has been shit, but he will still be known as one of the greatest
