4th of July - A perfect day to reflect on Patriotism so, I took the time to watch a great speech from a man I feel is destined to be a great leader of this nation. If you haven't seen it, I highly recommend that all of you take some time to watch it as well, no matter what your politics are.....

The sound of the crowd after the Twain reference (around 15:30 in) doesn't quite carry as well as it did in person (I was there, it was probably the biggest ovation of the day). But who can argue with a 25 second ovation when it comes to a reaction?

This speech is a patriotic act because it unites America healing a divide. Hearing this speech bridged a divide between me and my fellow citizens, answering why the flag pin is important to some people: The desecration of America's symbols by some in the 60's and the disrespect for Vietnam veterans left scars that make antiwar sentiment seem suspect. His words healed a division in me. And he respects America's founders by recalling them. God Bless Mr Obama and the USA! Happy Independence Day!

If you really look at the man's history you'd see he has done a great deal to be a president. His approach in Iran different then what we're supposed to believe is the right way, by opening the lines of communication with Iran. Obama is the a man that truely seems to believe in this country and the capablities of its people, and yes an incredible speaker... if you research any great leader, there ability to inspire is what makes them truely great. God knows we need a true leader now.

I really enjoyed Obama's speech. He is an awesome orator. He is instructional, educational, and inspiring. It is a true mental joy to listen to Obama's thoughts. He reaches the intellect, and the heart. When you listen to the opposition they are left looking like mental midgets in comparison to Obama. When Obama is elected President, we as Americans will finally have a President to be proud of, who will lead us and the world to a better day.

Notice that he states a series of facts, then calls those facts "questions". Simple mistake? Not when you consider how much speech writers are paid to manipulate the audience. How can he address patriotism when he turns his back to the flag when the national anthem is played? This is truly a dangerous man.

Having never wanted to visit America, because of its current leader, it's policies, its insular "world" views, it's everything. Not even for 1 minute. Hearing Obama's every word, I not only want to visit, but I'd want to move there, if I'm lucky to be accepted. Vote for intelligentsia, common sense, integrity not only for America but the rest of the World.

It's worth noting that it's quite easy to access info on Obama's policy ideas at his website under "Issues." His basic outline can be downloaded as a PDF. McCain has a similar section on his site.Wouldn't it be great if we had an election decided by an informed public rather than smear tactics and media sensationalism?

I am voting for Barack but, no matter who wins in November 2008 in January 2010 (one year after inauguration) either Barack or McCain will be explaining to the American people why 10,000's of troops are still in Iraq. When Barrack comes into office he is not going to whisk all our troops back home to safety with snap of his fingers & we will be in Iraq for a good while longer.

No it isn't. A post-secondary education isn't guarenteed in the USA, not only that he said it would be a monetary incentive for people who want to go to college. A draft says that you must go to war if the country needs you to in a time of war. National service does not equal war, nor are you required to participate. How you interpreted this as a draft I have no idea.

Well Obama's the better candidate, but I'm not happy about the fact that he felt the need to push away his ties to Islam. Kinda sad that he has to do that just to appease narrowminded Yokels. Also his pledging support to Israel's military raises some concerns, hopefully he doesn't actually give them the billion dollars he pledged. It would be better spent giving education to people in Israel/Palestine then in giving it to Israel's military.

well, I only have a Bs at Rutgers and a MS at U delaware in engineering, but my feeling is that any vote for a republican only enables sending our tax money to Blackwater and other security firms. It also means that we will likely go to Iran, as the GOP is selling that story. THINK

I hear ya, man, and I've been supporting you for months all the way from Berlin, Germany. But I'm reminded now of a useful Oscar Wilde quote: "Patriotism is a virtue of the vicious." Don't give in to the cheap calls for you to prove your patriotism through shallow gestures such as lapel pins, etc. Deeds, not words. Lead with honor, dignity, honesty and integrity. We'll heed the call and assume our responsibility!!!

Naturally the common people don't want war. That is understood. But after all, it is the leaders of the country who determine policy, and it is always a simple matter to drag the people along, whether it is a democracy, or a fascist dictatorship, or a parliament, or a communist dictatorship. Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is ...

1] All polls show that Democrats will make significant gains in the house and senate, thus allowing Obama to author significant change 2] Obama has been saying for months that he wants a careful and measured withdrawal from Iraq and that he will deploy some of these forces to Afghanistan, where things are coming apart thanks to the insane diversion that is the witless occupation of Iraq. I'm vexed at the negative comments. I can't understand how one can lable Obama as "a false", "liar", when I don't see one argument that supports this in TRUTH(media targeting Obama makes everything more than it is). I dont see what the hell everyone WANTS. The perfect president? Even if presented a perfect nominee you'all would bash him like you do so for Obama. Blindingly questioning one's honestly is radical. I seriously doubt he'd run for president to sink America deeper in the rabbit hole.

How can so many of you be so uninformed and without critical thinking capacity? What you can flip flopping, I call nuanced postions... Positions that grow and evolve based on what is happening in the world. We just had 8 years of NEVER EVER changing your mind and look what that got us! Is he perfect? No. Nobody is.
