Yeah, that's really beginning to piss me off. This game visually looks great but I just can't get over that. I'm nowhere near as excited about playing MW5 as a result. This either needs to be fixed or someone needs to create a mod to fix it.

if you're short on heatsinks take the mechs your going to sell and put them into cold storage. it will strip all components, doesn't take any cash or time and you can move it right back into your mech bay. If its in cold storage and has components move it to the bay then back to storage for the quick strip.

"Why does the Rifleman have more armor on the arms than the JagerMech?" Because the Rifleman has less guns. The Jager has quad ballistics, with ammo. Additionally, to go the same speed as the Rifleman, it needs a slightly larger engine which weighs a little more. Having checked, the Rifleman-3N has 7.5 tons of armor. The JagerMech-S has 6 tons. So it's natural that the Rifleman has a little more armor in general (this is a reason why I like the Rifleman more than the Jager).

Incorrect. MWO Patch 1.4.169 on the 15th of May, 2018. Structure / Max - Armor Redistribution: The following 'Mechs have had some of their Arm Structure and Max Armor Points re-distributed from their Arm Locations into their Torso locations: Jenner Jenner IIC Cicada Jagermech Stalker PGI simply copied pertinent stats from MWO into MW5, resulting in all four(Jenner IIC isn't in MW5) of those mechs having weak arms. Not as much of an issue as it might seem as they changed it due to stats saying they lost side torsos(large hitboxes) before arms(small hitboxes)

Also defining "more or less armor" by the weight of armor is not reliable as there are mechs with ferro fibrous armor in this game. In case of the Jagermech the DD variant's max armor weighs 1.46 tons less, even though there is no difference in total armor points compared to the other variants.

Your pilots will use your assigned firing groups on any mech you've piloted. Been using that to change AI behaviors so they don't eat so much incoming damage.

@@DIEGhostfish No, that would be stupid, you would be carrying useless weight around. Also it doesn't change the incoming damage, but rather to make better use of their heat and thus increasing dps. For example putting all 3 PPCs of your Awesome on the same group with no other option will lead to her always shooting all 3 weapons, which is overkill for tanks. Also putting PPCs and S Lasers in the same group would be stupid, so create weapongroups for your AI that make actually sense. Another bad example are quad-AC2 Maulers with a chainfiregroup for the AC2s. Your AI won't make use of the insane firerate of the weapons by holding down the appropriate key. You as a player can spam the button and don't care about it being chainfire, but AI won't.

Repairing salvaged Mechs before selling them is a bad idea, the repair costs are always much higher than the bonus you get out. There isn't much difference in payout for selling a fully destroyed mech on his last leg compared to a fully repaired one. The only thing that really impacts the sell price are the installed components. But often enough, you want to keep those. Here is what I do: I always have one slot open in my active mech bay for a salvaged mech. When I salvage a mech, I drag & drop it from active mech bay into cold storage and then back into active mech bay. By doing this, I'm stripping all the components for 0 cost and time effort (bug?)!!! Then I sell the naked mech no matter what state it's in. This is also helpful if you want to refit a mech which has more destroyed components on it than healthy ones. You will save a lot of money and especially time in the long run. Completed my first campaign in 3034.

That Grass Hopper with dual PPCs and jump jets is absolutely epic but you look like you enjoy way too much guns to use it to its full potential. You also outlined two more flaws in this game. One , putting all weapons on the torso not affecting targeting in any way is a bit narrow sighted. Two , completing the mission without having triggered the scenario by being in the zone is simply disappointing. Thanks for sharing and wishing you the best for the holidays and beyond. 4:22 Remember when they changed a few mechs by moving armor from the arms to side torsos(JM and cicada in particular)? Pretty much every mech in MW5 is just ported from MWO(with a few oopsies, like the Dao Breaker which doesn't have 3 hardpoints per arm)

Looking forward to what the Rifleman can do. It's one of my favourite mechs, next to the Warhammer. In MWO, I have AC-10 arms and Medium Torso lasers. It's ok as a Fire support second line mech, but don't get much team work gameplay to be honest.

It seems to depend on the pilot but from what i can discern the A.I. are trying to get to a range were they are able to fire all weapons or have the most fire power. @@DIEGhostfish Ok, so Primer: When a hit lands on a structure exposed area it has a chance to issue a 'crit' point to an item in that location. Each item gets 1 'Crit' strike to 'damage' which can be repaired and the second crit strike destroys the item. Providing the game uses the same rules as Table-Top it will only count slots that are occupied, empty slots are ignored. (note: large items may take up multiple 'Crit slots.' the BATTLETECH TurnBasedStrat game by HairBrainedStudios does a good job of showing the number of crit slots each weapon has) Crit Padding: Crit padding is the concept of stacking more items in one place to lower the chance that a crit will hit something 'valuable.' Don't forget that ammo will explode if it takes a crit and will DESTROY the area that it was in taking with it ALL items in that area. This is why you see people putting ammo in areas that don't get hit often (like the legs) and moving it OUT of the CT/Head and areas with expensive hardware or that would KO the mech if it took a crit. As an example, lets say you're in an Orion ON1-VA and your LT is down to structure (no armour left) you take another hit there and the game considers it a Crit. That location on the ON1-VA has (at stock) an AC10 in that torso. Since there is ONLY the AC10 there the crit HAS to hit the AC10. Now lets 'Pad' the area with 3 Single Heat Sinks (SHS) In that case the game will do the following logic (simplified): CRIT: [Count Number of slots used] THEN: [Issue each used slot a number] THEN: [RNG a number between min and max of issue numbers] THEN: [Issue 1 crit strike to item with selected number] Let's work through that process with the Padding: CRIT AREAS COUNT: 6 ITEMS: 1 SHS - 2 SHS - 3 SHS - 4,5,6 AC10 (IIRC it consumes 3 crit slots) RNG NUMBER: #2 CRIT STRIKE ON: SHS in slot 2

Vid is a year old, but I wanted to say I absolutely love my rifleman, in MWO the cataphract is my favorite mech, but they seem pretty rare in mw5. So the rifleman is a good substitute. And Having 4 medium Lasers as a back up with maxed armor means despite it being only 60 tons, it's surprising tanky for the firepower it can pack.

i figured out why the recoil of ballistic shots and ppc's feel so bad. the weapon does not recoil, nor the mech. It's the pilots head that recoils! like someone is pulling your head back every time you shoot. *starts googling for a trainer to remove head recoil*

With your play-style and affinity for going all in, wouldn't it be better for you to keep all the Double Heat Sinks you come across for your own personal use? I've yet to see any of your AI Pilots flirt with Emergency Shutdowns or have any heat management issues at all. While you on the other hand are pretty much always on the verge of shutting down if not in fact making it happen. There's also the fact that you will do a much better job of protecting them for the most part and they do appear to be fairly rare as well as offering one hell of a benefit to your play-style. Truly enjoying the content, you're damned good pilot and a lot of fun to watch...

Yes, AI does not shut down, but they will stop firing, so stripping their heatdissipation for personal gain is not a good way to make them better at their job. Their loadout needs to be balanced as well, that's why I'd recommend to play every mech of your lance a couple of times to make sure they have enough heatsinks and ammo. But I guess there will always be players that give sh*tty equip to their AI and then trashtalk them for doing no damage.

An engine heat sink slot can only hold heat sinks, obviously. But it can hold a double heat sink in a single slot. Which can be quite useful. Especially because it protects the double heat sink.

regarding the Ultras... hard to make a call there tbh, but most likely the AI wont make use of its Special fire mode as u assume, its just not smart enough for complex things it seems. they run up close to enemys, dont care one bit if block ur line of sight, and in terms target solutions they shoot whatever is closest instead of whats the biggest threat -.- i realy hope that the Mod Kit will enable ppl to Mod the AI pilots for being more usefull and smarter, at least to a degree

The AI is absolutely broken . I've seen better AI in games that are 10 years older than MW5. I have a pilot that likes to only stand in front of me . If I try to move or reposition the stupid pilot will mirror my movement and I'm back where I started with a friendly mech in my way.

They don’t actually take much percentage off when they destroy buildings, I’ve used the buildings for cover and have never had trouble keeping the base over 30%. Also the AI is much smarter in this game than say MechWarrior 4, they actually follow your orders and keep up.

ER PPC seems to be an almost instant hit as opposed to normal PPCs where the bolt seems to travel slower. I don't use them much so maybe it was just that one I had.

Yeah, AI works based on minimum ranges of equipped weapons, so if you have LRMs and S Lasers in the same mech, AI will prioritize using the Lasers and going into the fray, even if LRMs are more the mech's focus. You can "trick" the AI by simply keeping ranges in mind when doing builds that AI will end up using, sticking to strictly long range weapons for snipers and focusing on short range weapons for mechs that will be in the heat of battle for AI. TAG and NARC might have different behaviors to them, as they are more support weapons and have no real minimum ranges, but max ranges of these weapons, if less than minimums of others, will affect a mech's behavior as well.

Piloting a javelin with 2xsrm6s tier4 and lance AI in 2 atlas with ac20bf tier4 and a stalker 3f with 2ppcs. Javelin clean those tanks and light mechs that always sniff up the assault's @ss. Can run up to a light mech and 2 shot or sometime 1 shot them if lucky, harasses heavies and assaults and take out their acs plus drawing attention and fire from them, while your lance AI rain hell on them. Setup mech with very similar load out and equally leveled pilot and enemy AI will less likely to target an individual mech which results in constant loss of weapons and huge repairs.

Rifleman should be 2x AC5, 4x ML + Armour + HS. Remove the Damn Small Lasers from the WH that was right, the AI is trying to get in range. 4x ML or even another HS would be far better.

From what ive heard the ai tries to get in range of all their weapons. If you hve a small laser and lrns equipped the ai will never use the lrms. I unequip smalls and flamers from all my ai mechs

Yes there are 4 Banshee variants i guess but most of the time you will find only these shitty variants but if you find 3S buy it, great versatile mech, 2 heavy energy hardpoints, 4 medium energy hardpoints, 2 small energy hardpoints, 1 medium balistic hardpoint and 1 medium missile hardpoint.

You should consider repairing in combat zones more often. The repair costs are quite low. So paying 50-70% extra, isn't a big deal. And the repair duration can usually be overlapped with travel time inside the combat zone and the time missions take. In the last few episodes, you spend around 60 days to travel to a hub, repair and go back to combat. Paying a lot for the travels and ofc the upkeep. If you had repaired in the combat zone, it would have taken ~40 days. Just to throw some estimated numbers around. Obviously though, you miss out on chances to check out the market and look for new hires.

Repair costs for (most) mechs range 80-100k, growing exponentially with lost limbs, torsos, or legs. At 'just' 50% more that's 120-150k. At 70% more it's nearly 136k-170k. The travel price going out of a combat zone is always less than 100k. That means if you're repairing more than 2 mechs then you're paying more in the combat zone surcharge than you are in travel time bills. On top of that upkeep only comes once every 90 days, so unless you're traveling across huge swathes you're always better off moving out of a combat zone to repair. Spending the time going to an industrial hub may or may not be better, but combat zones are always mathematically the worst choice.

Riflemans are horrible mechs. They have the armor in theory but in the game they fall apart faster than a Spider. Squishy slow and hot PoS.

Still better than a jaeger in my game, that little bit more arm strength is great if YOU are using the mech. The rifleman, blackjack and jaeger are all worthless with AI though.

It's supposedly because they use ablative armor, rather than the type of armor that blocks all damage if it isn't pierced, but does nothing if it is pierced.

I do find it somewhat disappointing that enemy units don't have the correct colours, just using the MWO faction colour schemes. That works for MWO, but it's slightly irritating here where (for example in the final mission of this video) the briefing specifically names the OpFor as the Lexington Combat Group, a unit with a canon colour scheme, but the mechs in game are painted in the parade colours of the Davion Guards instead. It's just another of those little quibbles that makes MW5 look pretty phoned in by PGI.

Oriente Fusilliers uses a blue/white scheme and the OpFor is supposed to be disguised as a Marik Unit

Firstly, not according to Sarna, both the Oriente Fusiliers and Hussars (can't remember off the top of my head which brigade the game used here) both have predominately green colours. The Hussars use a 2 tone green scheme, while the Fusiliers use green, black and lighter green. Secondly, the mechs Bara fights in this video aren't using a blue/white scheme, they're using the red/white/blue scheme of the Davion Guards (or at least the MWO version, which varies a bit by chassis so doesn't always match the blue sides, red centre/rear and white spacing Sarna states).

@@efffvss The Ducal guard is also part of the fusiliers and all the coalition leaderships mechs use a Blue white scheme in the field. Sartna only identifies the unit as a wholes PARADE colors. And the Red/White/Blue hasnt been a thing in the field for any Davion Guard unit. THey always used a field camo to make them harder to spot from the air.

That's kinda the point, 'realistically' most units would use planet/biome appropriate camos (excluding a few mad units like the Sword of Light who iirc retain their red scheme) rather than parade colours when deployed. Also note I especially mentioned MW5's (and MWO's) use of the Guard's parade colours in my initial post. These games use that as generic 'Davion Colours' (the LCG being a firmly Davion merc unit, like the Big Mac are for Liao), which is wrong on multiple levels, and is especially galling when used on what's meant to be a false flag operation. I have no idea where you're getting the idea that FWL constituent states have a uniform field colour scheme for their 'guard' units, but it's immaterial (among other reasons, the flavour text at other points in the quest chain states you're meant to be fighting the 4th Fusiliers, not the Ducal Guard). The game is using Davion Guard parade colours (the MWO 'Davion scheme') for all Davion aligned OpFors (it seems to do the same for Liao and Marik (and I assume Kurita and Steiner) too, as I recognise the MWO schemes, but don't know which units they represent), which I find irritating and a symptom of the sad lack of overall polish in MW5.

@@efffvss Mech commander games used the Kell hounds scheme for Kurita and Clan units. Alot of these devs may not have any interest in the Battletech universe. Thats an older problem than just the MW titles and just one that wont be fixed anytime soon sadly

Jesus........ rapes the Grasshopper which has its large energy hardpoints in TORSO positions and humanoid profile (making it one of the best heavies in the game) to stick everything in a Marauder which has nearly ALL of its weapons arm mounted and a massive profile. He really hasn't figured this game out yet....

Have to agree. Marauder is basically a highly mobile ballistic turret with the arm-mounted lasers as backup. Either slam the biggest UA/C and run around doing pot shots around the battlefield or go LB-X and go shotgun support. Grasshopper is a heavy hunter-killer. Med (pulse) lasers, jumpjets, stack on armor and heatsinks and go murder the lesser than thou mechs out there.

Yeah, I think Bara is still thinking MWO about the MAD with the high torso ballstic. MW5 doesn't incorporate the same tactics. Your builds need to adapt to the AI's fighting style, both enemy and ally. I'm am having to unlearn stuff. Then I go back to MWO and get confused. ;)
