I watched this video a few years ago when I was first learning to turn and knew I wanted to stick with it so I could get good enough to turn a 3 sided cup. Happy to report I've watched it 3 times (learned something new each time) and I'm having a total blast experimenting with multi axis turning. If you don't have her book get it! Filled with great information. "Multi Axis Spindle Turning: A Systematic Exploration" published 2018. If you haven't been to one of her demos get to one! She's even better in person.

This is the best demo of this process that I've seen. Very clear, and easy to follow. Thanks. I'm going to try this.

I am so pleased you put this up. I'd seen an article in Woodturning magazine here in the UK about Barbara and had figured out from that, the way of doing it eventually but it's great to see her for real. Thanks so much Rich

That is amazing. It makes what I turn seem really plain and dull. I'll watch this again and then I'll try it. You demonstrated and explained your technique very well. I love that shape; if mine comes out similar to this, my wife will love it.

Great video! You can also use the indexing on the lathe together with the tool rest to mark the 120 degree angles or 90 degrees.

That is amazing, How could I not think of this. (Well I know)......The way she hit the throttle, I am guessing she has never been hit in the face with a block of Oak.

Great presentation, two things 1st gonna subscribe to see more content, 2nd does hollowing require somewhat a different procedure than a regular round vessel? Very injoyable to watch. At the beginning, it sounded as if she said capital city turning? What city if being referenced?

CA glue on the inside? Is that safe?

Barbara, that was a fantastic demo. You answered a lot of questions as I have been wanting to do a variation of your design for a long time, and with my trial and error, I have done quite a few errors :) So the thin CA Glue really works to seal the interior for consumption? Impressive, was over thinking of how to seal the interior, was trying to find a food safe finish that was water tight, is the CA a food safe finish? Cheers

I just found this video so I haven't thought about this much and I'm just spitballing here but couldn't you number to the ends offset by 1 and then all you have to do is match up the ones and the twos and the threes? it seems that that's the one place where you might make a mistake so why not eliminate the problem and any confusion by using mismatched numbers... and if I've missed something please forgive me sometimes I'm a little mentally challenged when it comes to math.....

This might be safe for you, but I think it could potentially be dangerous for someone who sees this video and tries to replicate it. The work piece may fly off, and the chisel could get in a catch. I don't recommend it for beginners.

Ick.. Thin CA INSIDE the cup where liquid is going to go? I don't think CA is ok for consumption.... but an excellent video on multi-axis turning... you got some guts going at that thing spinning the say it does!
