Barbara Eden - Son of a Preacher Man/Matchmaker (1969)

2 жыл бұрын

Eden performed two songs on the first episode of Engelbert Humperdinck's variety show in December 1969: Dusty Springfield's newest hit, "Son of a Preacher Man," and "Matchmaker, Matchmaker" from Fiddler on the Roof (3:32). Tom Jones appeared on the same show, but unsurprisingly, they only appeared together in the intro and outro (read her autobiography for that story!). Clip provided by sean32. Copyright 1969 ITC.
I'm not posting complete episodes to KZbin due to music copyright b.s., but people keep asking for this one. You can download it here: mega.nz/folder/7ppmnIgb#LXcz1...

She's not a pop singer. Son of a Preacher Man was a bad choice. That's Dusty Springfield's tune. Barbara can't sing that shit. But she's better at Broadway show tunes I suppose.

I'm 59 and I agree. I grew up believing Barbera Eden, Dawn Wells and Elizabeth Montgomery were the most beautiful women in Hollywood. I never saw Eden sing this song. It was rare to watch Eden sing and she did have a great voice. Personally, I don't care for her version of Preacher Man.

@@jonathanswift2251 Montgomery played a much smarter woman. Some of us find intelligence sexy. Way more so than the slave bimbo that Eden played. @@jonathanswift2251Is there not room for both? I definitely agree that Elizabeth Montgomery was stunning as well, and of course they didn't create or write the series they starred in (although Ms. Montgomery was married to William Asher, the director of Bewitched, for pretty much the entire run of the show.) I just count myself as being lucky for having been a young lad during this era. :)

Am I mistaken, or wasn't this song was one of Bobby Gentry's original hits?
@akrenwinkle
@akrenwinkle Жыл бұрын
@@augustusmccrae7714 You're not mistaken. But people remember things differently. Best example: people identify that awful 70s dirge "You Light Up My Life" with Debby Boone. But the original singer was Kasey Cisyk, whose name seems like something on an eye chart. She sang it for a movie with the same name, while Didi Conn lip synched it. Also, many might think Frank Sinatra introduced "NY, NY." He didn't, but he made a big hit out of it.

Ohh my......The sound of the late 1960's is unmistakable - Unmatched and never repeated. Jesus Christ Superstar, Hair, Beach Boys etc.... Nancy Sinatra, Momas and Poppas, Good morning Sunshine, it has a sound that has not been replicated.

I changed this song so many years ago to irritate my young sister and sang: Mess maker, Mess Maker make me a mess! Mess up our house you do it the best!! Boy did I get an over reaction on this. I was just doing my duty as an older brother!! But I still will always love Barbara Eden!l
