The Herules once lived on Sjælland, the Saxons both in England and Germany and the Vandals ended up in north africa. They were not destinct in any meaningful way and they themselves held strong kinship with each other. Even during the viking age the vikings would often see the Anglo-saxons as part of their own. If they didn't see other germanic tribes as outsiders then why should we act as if they did?

And at the end of the day, Europe is just overglorified peninsula as it's only valid definition. Here in Brazil it pretty much depends on which school you attended. I was actually taught that "América do Sul"(South America) and "América do Norte" (America do Norte) are different things, but you can use interchangeably "As Américas" (The Americas) or "O Continente Americano" (The American Continent) when you want to talk about all of it. I am British and I got into a sort of prefight with a goose as it was about to attack my son (5yo) I charged it and it backed off but when I stopped it charged back and I picked up my son and ran back to my car.
