Was waiting for you to tackle this! I expect you'll hate it, I was frustrated and annoyed playing it but couldn't stop coming back until I finished it. Something about it, man!

I think the window for jumping over the trigger for that block falling is pretty small, so it is funny he got it the first go around 😅

This hack made me think a Mario hack with 100% persistent death consequences and no resets would be really cool. Like your corpse can become a little platform. If you keep dying on spikes, then you'll be able to walk over your previous corpses to move along. Kaizo blocks will still be unhidden until you choose to reset the level.

Man i laugh so hard at barb's reaction to cheap deaths. Especially when there are 2 in a row like around 1:47:15. Thanks for the laughs barb! Edit: Fixed the timestamp and to agree about raisinbran turning into pig slop if you don't eat it fast enough.

Is there a VOD or something for watching barb play wings of vi? I’ve owned that game for a decade now and never beat it, but I’m curious as to what specifically made barb hate it lmao, would love to watch

this game works better just for the metanarrative that it's something some business software programmer worked on in his spare time in 1982 thus starting the company than it does as a game that is fun to play, like the no music, janky stiff movement, unclear hitboxes, it's a very believable "1982 PC game made by some dude who never made a game before"

This, 100%. It's a brilliant 'Let's Design A Bad Game' game.

A lot of you never played any platformer/adventure games on old computers like Commodore 64 and it shows. This game is so far my favourite in UFO 50 since it's exactly how I remember a lot of them. Yes, it's clunky, silent and annoying, but it's a true time machine to me.
@MrMarlowe34887 күн бұрын
@ if you'll notice, combatants, everyone's least favorite game, mentions in the history that the boss of the company had a strong hand in game design and concept, i have a theory that's intentional

No actually this game is extremely advanced for something a hobbyist could have feasibly programmed in 1982. Have you played many PC games from 1982?

i'm glad someome else thinks FTL is too RNG dependent. Like , wtf are you supposed to do when you're playing the ship with the 1 engi crewmember and the game hits you with the scripted event tha teleports 4 mantis crew onto your ship, while at the same time, there's a ship on the right firing missiles? enemies with missiles are such BS, because they can just spam the missiles and bypass youur shield and when every enemy in the zone all in a row has 10+ missiles, they get you through attrition. raising dodge rate doesn't even help in the early game. you have to almost max out your engines to beat the "house advantage" and get to 51% dodge rate and then still watch helplessly as a mega missile still sail right past and hits your engines or 4 damage and puts fire on every square in the room, reducing your dodge rate to 0% and then you can't jump away to escape, and the enemy then just keeps hitting you. and then you get a run where you never even see a second crewmember not even once for the first 4 sectors. totally relate to the pain of the forums all trying gaslighting you saying "the game balance is fine, you just suck" and justifying with "this one guy has a no pause win streak". . .❤

Go play E.T. for Atari! That was atrocious. These guys are spot on for nostalgia for 80s video games!
@chanceneck80727 күн бұрын
@JesusRodriguez-kd8es Dude, chill. 🤨 E.T. on Atari was a much worse game. But that doesn't change the fact that Barbuta was also pretty horrible. Barb said so himself. If me stating that here publicy hurt your feelings for some reason, I really can't help you. And I don't know what your fn problem is.... Can't you handle people with different opinions than yours? Is that too much for you? Too hard to accept?
@hitofuuki7 күн бұрын
This dude just voiced his opinion with example of really bad game and you start with "dude, chill" while lashing out on him for disagreeing with you. Are you sure you're the one to say that?
@chanceneck80727 күн бұрын
@hitofuuki Yeah, I probably assumed the wrong thing from his reply. Felt instantly personally attacked. Maybe that's my mistake, happened to me twice today 😅 I'm sorry. I'm just confused, why someone would give me advice to play E.T., a notorious game I know about, of course. Then I instantly assume, that person is criticising my initial claim. And that gets me even more confused, because Barb himself said NOTHING else in this entire video. 😅 EVERYONE else in the comments says the same. But strangely *I* am the one who gets advice, like from a school teacher. Saying "these guys know perfect 80s nostalgia, blablabla". So, naturally I feel attacked. I'm thinking "wtf? What did I say wrong?". So, yeah, thus my reaction. I can just HOPE, I misinterpreted something big time. English is only my 2nd language after all. But yeah, that's basically my explanation. Hope it helps. And proves to a degree that I certainly am all chill. 🤷♂️

I think that this game’s design appeals to a narrow subset of people (myself included) who either grew up with/know the tropes of old adventure games or enjoy the feeling of very intentional, player-driven exploration (making a map). Otherwise I think it still has a function in the collection by forcing people to understand you’re not beholden to play a game that’s boring, and just move on to another one you like more. Between Barbuta, Bug Hunter, and Ninpek, I feel like the first three games have something for 90% of players to enjoy.
