Great review of the metallic product line. Lots of talk about the glossiness. If you want gloss over a matte, just shoot clear over it. if I have a choice in matte or gloss for a certain color (Krylon) I always pick the matte version and will spray gloss over it if needed. Couple of other notes: 1. It appears you need to shake the cans more, several times you barely shook the can and then talk about coverage! Maybe coverage would be better if the paint was mixed better? 2. Warm up the can before spraying by soaking them in a small bucket of warm water for 10-15 minutes before spraying (be sure to use a towel off the can before spraying to avoid water dripping). This works especially well for the gloss colors, they will lay out much flatter (glossier).
@alexanderbt19872 жыл бұрын
In response to your comment about how he barely shook the can prior to demonstration, I guess you missed it at the beginning when he mentioned how he did in fact give each can a good shake prior to filming the demonstration followed by how that actually was a pain however it's necessary. The small shake before each demo was him simply giving each can a quick shake beforehand.

Very nice, real-world comparison. Thank you for taking the time to do this and share it. Those are some great colors to consider when I refurb my next Baldor. My take is if you’re going to take the time to strip and repaint something, you might as well make it interesting to look at. I will be choosing one of the nice colors you’ve demo’d here.
@shannonchurchill45563 жыл бұрын
Key point; there is a reason model paint comes in smaller cans. I can’t imagine trying to paint models with huge cans like that, but I did repaint the hand rail on my stairway with their hammered metal finish (pewter) and it came out pretty nice. I had to leave it outside for 2 days to out-gas though.

If you let the cans sit and settle a couple of days you can poke a hole in the top of the cans and let out the pressure. cut the top off and pour the paint into a jar for airbrush use. Good for any spray can!
@moparnut62863 жыл бұрын
You could also dispense with the cutting the top off and just put a hole near the bottom edge and it will pour out nicely just make sure you have a big enough bottle to hold it all.

Awesome video comparative review of these Rust-Oleum metallic spray paints! I bought 4 cans of the satin black color of this brand. I plan to use it to extra anti-rust and color paint a DIY galvanized iron steel clothing rack that I want to build. But until I found your review, no other YT videos do such an indepth and superb comparative color review of Rust-Oleum metalic spray paints. Bravo sir! Thank you so much for making this review.

Krylon chrome... I love it.. bought it from hobby lobby. Goes on so smooth, quick, great coverage and dries super quick. I used rustoleum sprays to paint my daughters vanity. It was OK. Not as great of a coverage but it was fast and it'll do. I ended up painting the other dresser the regular way.

Six years ago (funny that I just seen my FB memory now,I painted my cabinets 6 years exactly today 😆) I painted some kitchen cabinet doors with their silver hammered finish. They still look the same as they did from day one. Slab and frame doors particle board doors from the 80's,just cleaned them and some light sanding and two coats of paint. Their stuff is great for almost anything. Even did some doors with the roll on chalkboard paint. People used to ask me who did it, I'm like sprayed them outside and let them dry in my garage for a few days. Personally like the hammered metal finish they have, cause it can minor defects.

I used the Satin Nickel for some plastic parts in our old car. The interior was originally 100% black but adding painted accents made it look a lot better. I used a matte UV clear coat over top to help prevent scratches. I do think this is a great paint line but have seen many people complain of nozzle drips which I've encountered too, so if possible you need to keep whatever you're painting vertical or angled enough to not allow the can over the surface or you might drip paint on it. Lastly, I've always thought Rustoleum makes great "general purpose" paints. I want to try their newer automotive enamel too.

Thanks for another great video........A couple of things. I've used this before and it's pretty good but, if painting small stuff like a spoon or small Bandai, Gumpla, or other small stuff there is a lot of over spray probably over 50%. As someone who just bought all the lights for my new house build I can tell you every “antique brass” is a different shade. Every “oil rubbed bronze” is a different shade. I think I may do a project… I could create the antique brass effect by spraying on gold first, then spray on the aged brass on top. Then use a paint thinner to removed most of the aged brass but leave it in the crevasses. Might be really cool! But need a piece of crap to test that on! I saw a guy online do that trick for oil rubbed bronze with copper layer first, then the black on top. Used paint thinner to remove just a hint of black to show the copper underneath

Brilliant! Thank you for taking the time to do this and share. I bought an expensive mirror from West Elm but unfortunately the frame color looked so cheap in real life and I'm trying to find that saturated antique brass spray color. I was quite disappointed given that they call their mirror "Antique Brass". This was not antique and far from brass. Just a cheap metal frame that was sprayed in China and selling for $499 plus tax. What is happening to the world?
