@barbatosrex9473 I was messing around with fingernail paint... the kind that you brush on some kind of UV-cured base, and then apply the metallic flake. I gotta admit... it looks pretty good. Only drawback is that it's suitable for small items. Your stuff.... good lord... IMPRESSIVE. Both shades you showed are remarkable. Good stuff. One question... Why is it that these chrome products require a black background? Would it be because black is actually the absence of all color? Thanks for your time.

If you want to protect your chrome, use Allclad's clear coat on top. It will make it a bit foggy, but there is a fix. Apply some 2K automotive clear gloss paint on top of Allclad's clear coat. When the Allclad clear dries, it has a rough bumpy surface, which isn't really visible to the naked eye, and that diffuses the finish on the chrome. You absolutely MUST use Allclad's clear before you use the 2K clear, because the 2K will destroy the chrome paint. The end result is almost mirror like, and it will stay that way for a long time.

I got that same rough, bumpy texture from Alclad's Aqua Gloss clear on normal paint but I was told it's because I didn't start with a wet coat. Instead, I sprayed a light tack/mist coat, like you would normally do for spray cans etc.. Apparently it likes only wet coats. Areas where I unintentionally sprayed it heavier were definitely smoother. I'll try only wet coats on my next car.
@hhaste Жыл бұрын
To follow up on this, I did only medium wet coats on my next car and it was very smooth. Not sure if all of their clear's should be sprayed like that but I have to assume so. I just got some of their Gloss Klear Kote and the directions also say medium coats, same as Aqua Gloss's directions.

Is this the same paint? Or perhaps super old stock, perhaps a company in the US bought ownership of the product? What's more on the alclad website, the retailers page shows nothing in Europe, could this be a rights to distribute thing, irony that if this was a UK created product you now struggle to get hold of in the UK.

I shot the Airframe aluminum for the 1st time and I think I put too much as it went from a shinny look to a dull steel. I thought the more I sprayed the more shinny it would get, I guess not!

The more you spray the less shiny. A rule of thumb with these type of paints

These videos are so helpful! What would the alclad holomatic spectral chrome look like over the glossy black and chrome? If you ever did a video of that, that’d be sweet!

@nippyhobbies45254 жыл бұрын
Sorry to bother boss, but I was wondering, does the black acts as a primer? Because I heard that alclad had a gloss black and primer product. Cheers from australia
@supersportimpalass3 жыл бұрын
The black is somewhat of a primer but actually is there more to help create the chrome effect. Other colors can be used but gloss black reproduces the chrome look the best as the chrome paint is slightly translucent. This is why it is recommended to only use a couple light layers as the more layers are sprayed the less the black shows through and will look more silvery. Hope this answers your question.

I think your content is awesome! I've never airbrushed anything before but I'm ready to try. I'm going to purchase an inexpensive airbrush system from Amazon ($30). My first project will be to paint handles for a dresser in chrome. Next, I'll do handles for a cabinet. Do you recommend Alclad for airbrushing metals?
@barbatosrex94733 жыл бұрын
Alclad is one of the best for metal colors. It goes on great too. When painting chrome be sure to have a gloss black base

@@barbatosrex9473 Thanks for getting back to me so quickly! I just noticed that it says the paint is for plastic. Should I use something else to paint on metal?
@barbatosrex94733 жыл бұрын
@@LizLynnLove it should be fine as long as there's a primer for it to stick to. Lacquers are okay for metal as well as enamels. Enamels take much longer to dry but they're very durable

Alclad told me to never use their Klear Kote on the chrome. Only Aqua Gloss. I will be testing Spaz Stix chrome and clear tomorrow .

Alclad chrome is the best chrome I've ever used. The glossier your black base is, the shininer the chrome will be. Paint 1 wet coat of gloss black. The glossier, the better. Wet coats make it glossy. Wait 15 mins to dry. Then, paint another wet coat. Then, only paint 1 thin coat of chrome for best results. (reflective chrome)
