Nice video, well done. Resting barbel is always a worry - they give so much in the fight, sometimes they take forever. Agree with previous comments, keep their heads up.

Well done on the fish, but come on 8lb line and Avon rod on that (and most other Yorkshire barbel rivers), your going to end up leaving tackle in fish. I’d use 12lb as an absolute minimum on there.

💯 agree there I use 15lb main and 12 flouro hook length as I fish a very snaggy river, and it holds some very big barbel, 12-14lb caught regularly,,, and if you know barbel you know that they love snags, great content btw love the channel 👍🏻

If I was you I would keep your rod up high and get down steam of the fish when playing ( if possible ) If you are trying to drag the fish upstream they are more likely to find snags. I always used a centre pin when small river barbel fishing. If you pressure the fish with a high rod you have more chance of keeping their heads out of snags. Barb less hooks are useful too!

There's never quite enough room to play the lunatic barbel on there. Still you managed to get some out.

great fish good filming, but it would be good if your going post all these videos which ive watched quite a lot, you could maybe show your rigs ect and even give a discription of location! I live around these areas and would be nice of you to share a bit of knowledge, for us older novices. but great work
@riverfossfishing
@riverfossfishing Жыл бұрын
I did some 'vlogs' and shorts that covered rigs and tactics, but stopped as they were not that popular and quite a lot of work. Saying location is also tricky, there are people who want it but also those who complain if you give a river! If you get out fishing you should recognise the landmarks in my videos.

Always a pleasure to watch one if your videos 👍👍👍 My original JW Avon Quivers are in retirement at the min but I'll never part with them,they're the best rods I've ever used !!! I just use rods that are a bit more stout for chub and barbel. What alarms are you using there ??? The ears on them looked different 🤔🤔🤔 Don't throw away those ragged off cuts from the hotdogs,thread them onto your hook and up the shank for a change of bait shape etc... 👍👍👍
@riverfossfishing
@riverfossfishing Жыл бұрын
Many thanks, they are a good addition. Then alarms are actually just some korum adjusting rod rests that have an alarm shape. I keep all the rag end hot dog and chop it up into my ground bait, nothing is wasted!

Went there the other week and it was well flooded, my best barbel is 9.5 pounds from there, the weed does make it tricky but if you keep pressure they usually pull through eventually.

Well done chap, my local river is very weedy with very few barbel so i know how devastating it can be😅 Trick is keep pressure on but loosen your drag and they fish should pull you out, doesn't always work but its definitely worth a go. Tight lines and a new sub👍
@riverfossfishing

Thanks very much for the sub, much appreciated! I went back a few days later (next vid) and did much better by playing them differently.

12lb main line 10lb hook link it's not good angling to keep getting broke off pal
@riverfossfishing
@riverfossfishing Жыл бұрын
If the aim was to not get snagged or break off we would all fish 60lb braid like the lure anglers. The heavier the line the more pressure you put into fish and the more damage you will cause to their mouth hauling them from snags. In my opinion that is bad angling. We should aim for a balanced set up that is safe if we do get broken off. The heavier line would not stop these barbel finding snags.
@simonattwood4540
@simonattwood4540 Жыл бұрын
Hit and hold hence the strong lines you cannot let the fish take line cos once your in the snag you are done for brutal but that's the only way in snaggy waters may I also suggest a real with more cranking power 👍
