Barbel fishing on the River Don in Yorkshire using pellets and boilies

Enjoy the videos ! May i suggest you try a braid or drennan supplex hooklink as barbel will tend to spook off stiff lines like flourocarbon where as the soft supple lines i suggested feel more like streamer weed and far less likely to spook fish. Hope you don't mind me offering advice , your welcome to ignore it ! lol. Look forward to your next outing, tight lines !

Advice is always welcome. I use spiderwire braid where situations demand it and the first peg in video 48 is where I would strongly recommend using braid on a bolt rig due to snaggy bottom.

Good stuff again Russ, another Don Barbel for you 👍, I fish the Don a lot at Sprotboro but only had Barbel to 6lb. Will have to try the prison stretch myself. Nice day to be out on the bank for you. Keep the videos coming as they make great viewing 😉🎣

Great videos Russ, us dee dahs across the border are well impressed! Myself I've just spent the last 20 years targeting big carp in South Yorks/ Derbyshire (yer a lot of blanks!). Decided last season that a change was needed though so starting having a dabble for the barbel. Been venturing up your neck of the woods on the Dearne at Bolton and downstream plus the Don around the prison/ Sprotbrough. Had a few small ones and enjoyed it. If I'm honest though I felt at times like I'd never fished before, it was that different fishing on a river for barbel as opposed to still waters for carp. Plus I get the impression these rivers though they hold decent barbel now, they're not there in any great numbers and it might require a lot more hours than I have spare trying to get the location right if I'm going to have a chance of cracking fishing them like you seem to have. While I think about it, that double rod rest of yours, is it the Mk1 Korum river rod rest or the newer version 2 mate and if so how would you rate it (only it looks like am gonna need to buy one!)? I read somewhere you might be looking for ways to promote your videos for more viewers? I'm no expert but I've been having a dabble at building my own website and social media pages for my business and I picked up a few decent search engine optimisation tips that seem to improve promotion of my sites. Can't see any reason why similar techniques wouldn't work for you tube videos as well. Maybe we can help each other out here! Craig

Thanks Craig. Dearne is tough fishing for specimen barbel etc due to reaching the end of their life cycle and predation. A lot of small fry barbel have been released in Dearne over last few years but will be another five years before they reach a decent size. Quality size barbel are in short supply and best method is travel light roving. Darfield and Broomhill is my territory and shhhhhh don't tell anyone but I originate from Wincobank.

Will get back to you on rod rest.

Have you been pleased with it only I was looking at the MK 2 version the other day and am definitely tempted , seems a very good price?
@ukfishingvlog7 жыл бұрын
The rod rest section on mk 1 is detachable but is a bit wobbly, a design fault I think.

Cool video and Fishing. Had little loud in the back. What kind of fishing rod you are using. I think they are very delicate. Regards

Thanks, the rods are 2lb korum barbel rods
@peter54pl817 жыл бұрын
I have exactly the same rods but I thought that mine are stiffer. Great fishing rods and not expensive. I have to have large reels ,, Wychwood Riot Big Pit Reel, Size: 75. ,, Very good for barbel - try. I am waiting for the next videos and show what bait and sets you use. Best regards and wish you big barbel.

Great choice of rods and inexpensive both mine matched up for small river barbel with 4000 series korum reels and larger rivers like trent with a korum 6000 series and a 6000 shimao reels

How do you find barbel fishing here? I'm on my 6th trip this year to catch a double figure barbel, ive been once at bobs island on the Trent for first time and 4 times on the don at kilnhurst, all blanks minus the chub at Trent
@ukfishingvlog6 жыл бұрын
Only blanked twice barbel fishing here on Don key factor is travel light fish a peg 20 mins and move on.

@@ukfishingvlog 2 year update, really improved with the river fishing through research and talking to anglers who produce well, caught plenty with only 3 blanks out of many trips to the don, only small barbel but some days the big ens were just ripping off snapping on rocks lo
