There are barbie lovers all around the world, in sure Mattel would capture more collectors if they had more diversity with the collectibles. I personally went crazy (as all my mexican friends) when they realised the Día De Muertos Barbie!!! It's so far my most loved piece

Forgot to mention 13:18 = 🤣 When it comes to MGA / Mattel - I think the Rainbow High Dolls are awesome but I'm personally not into them whatsoever. I bought my niece all of the first wave and also the pink one who I believe is part of the second wave for Christmas. I know that MGA is killing it right now with the Rainbow High & LOL OMG dolls (I personally haaaaaate the LOL OMG dolls) but I personally don't see either of those lines having staying power. I'll give them credit, they did their thing, worked their magic and managed to start off at what seems to be the top in a very short time. 👏 Where do they go from there though? Neither have been around long enough to reach icon status like Barbie. I give the Rainbow High another two years and the LOL OMG about the same (likely less) before you'll no longer find them in stores. Monster High ran from 2010 - 2016 but even their peak performance was 2010 - 2012. Again with my PERSONAL opinion...I don't believe either MGA line will even last the 6 years Monster High managed to hang on. I do know who there's no doubt you'll always find on store shelves - I think we all know who that is! When MGA fails I don't know what some of these doll channels who've been propped up by them (receiving tons of free stuff in exchange for filming fake orgasms over every single freebie) are going to do....especially the ones who've gone out of their way to drag Barbie/Mattel through the mud because they aren't being supplied free dolls. I'm gonna stop here, because boy oh boy could I do some finger pointing. I just don't know what the hell they were thinking!

Bratz lasted 9 years the first run and were pulled out the shelves because of the lawsuit, the second lasted 4 years with another shorter run later and even if they are discontinued they are reached icon status and lol surprise are already 4 years old. Longevity don't mean anything when what you put out don't have an impact, in a couple of years when people will look at this era who will they remember. People have been critical of Barbie because they love her and want her to put better product that matched the current competition standard, if you think every constructive criticism is hate you sound kinda delusional

@@JeffreySteinmanReviews I think with the Rainbow High dolls especially, MGA really painted themselves into a corner...I mean what's next...releasing new dolls based on a different color? I think all of the hit colors have already been done. The cheer dolls they recently released (same dolls but this time with gimmicky face paint) TO ME, was absolutely ridiculous. The original line hasn't been out long enough to successfully pull off a gimmick like that. Rather than just making the additional fashion available, they are forcing you to spend $23 to get the ONE outfit they come with when the originals came with an entire extra outfit for $4 more. I think its messed up you have to pay $23 for an outfit that's already been proven to cost about $4. I get its all about the profit though, just sucks to poop on the people who made them so successful. Every color (which it aint like there's a ton) should have been available in a Medium Deep Caucasian skin tone and a Medium Deep African-American version. That could have so easily checked numerous boxes (not all, but far more) rather than having ONE African-American doll in a 13 doll line. I think that's the number of characters at this point, its somewhere close to that number. The Rainbow High dolls are beautiful, so its just a shame. Obviously African-American people will purchase the African-American dolls (and certainly many will also purchase the lighter skinned dolls). All of the Caucasian collectors I know purchase the dolls of color - often more frequently than the Caucasian or Lighter Skinned dolls. When you take the above into consideration, its kinda hard to dispute that now, more than ever...the demand is there.

@@darka97130 I think you may need to reread my posts. I never knocked constructive criticism. I'm not sure how we can guage what people in the future will remember from this "era". I will say this...consumers are twice as likely to take the time to voice/post their dissatisfaction than take the time to do the opposite. You have to keep this in mind, otherwise you can easily mistake the overall reception of anything. Personally, if I were concerned with anything I'm a fan of and wanted to offer constructive criticism I'd contact Mattel directly. I believe here on KZbin we are more or less sharing opinions with one another. When I share my opinions its never done with the goal of changing anyone else's. What other folks think of any of my opinions is none of my business. I think MGA has had some very successful doll lines (again, see previous posts) I PERSONALLY just don't forsee Rainbow High or LOL OMG dolls lasting nearly as long as Bratz. No need to assume anyone's delusional, we can keep it classy and share opinions without making personal assumptions about each other.

I think one of the reasons we’re so sick of Millie it’s because she rarely has make up on. In comparison with the Superstar sculpt that last almost two decades (correct me if I’m wrong) because the make up was always different and creative. Example you can have an old barbie head before 2010s and we can easily identify from what line it was based on eye print and makeup, lips, etc.

100% agree! I recently joined the BFC and made a post about how I hope this new Pink Collection will have more diversity. As a Korean American collector, the fact that only 3 silkstones have been Asian (and not even explicitly so) is unacceptable to me! I quickly realized from the responses however that a lot of the collectors Mattel is catering to are old white folks who don't think diversity matters at all. It's great to see other collectors stand up and say yes it does, so thank you for doing so

I think it's a given that Barbie has to start the collection as an introduction because she is the main character. I am excited to see what's to come in the line in the next few years. I think it would be gorgeous for them to use the 1987 Christie face mold on the model muse. I know usually they dont use smiling faces for collector barbies often but it can be done. The Lara or the open Mouth Mackie face mold would be nice too, but even though the Lara is beautiful it's over used so maybe change up the screening on that one.

I feel the design of the dress but hot pink is just so cliche for Barbie. I could envision that style of dress but each layer a different color...like you would see at Carnivale down in Rio. Vibrant emerald and lime green and red and purple with gold. They could have made her a deep skin tone and given her a head dress or better yet, some body jewelry. We need a Barbie with a belly chain, ya'll...ammuh right?

I heard the talk about the color skin/representation and diversity and would like add a point of view that maybe will make u think. First, what do we know about this new "Pink Collection'? Nothing. We know nothing so demanding something not knowing anything is hard. looks to me this will be similar to Silkstone by making exclusive dolls, one at time and only one version. We did not had the last Silkstone on three different skin tones, so why this one would be different? I do believe (AND HOPE) the next doll will be totally differente and NOT wearing pink. I am very critical on Mattel on my IG and country, but I took a step back on this line for not knowing much. I do agree that they could do more, I would love 5 different dolls with different dress colors as it was on 90s and earlier 00s, but it's not the purpose of the collection so lets see what they wiill do next. At this point Mattel is being careful cause they know collectors are TIIRED of shit garbage dolls. There is nothing new on mattel anymore and they are out of inspiration for a long time. Quality/creative/design does not walk together anymore. Compared to today - 90s,00s are way more diversity when on a simple playline basic collection u had 5 Barbie friends usiing 5 different colors with lot of acessories and they SLAYED on quality. Collectors got used to the worst, so that's the worst part - demanding better.

So, diversity needs to be seen at the collector level it just does. I’m not saying a white blonde Barbie for Mattel doesn’t make sense but not including other skin tones doesn’t make sense either. We saw the next one already and she is a periwinkle lavender color and white again. The problem with Mattel is at the collector level they’re only listening to old racist boomer collectors. Not the collectors in my age range and circle. We want diversity at the collector level plain and simple.

My point was clear about the purpose of this collection - replace Silkstone. Do u think Silkstone was diversity? had representation? So this one will be and do like it was done before, in time. Maybe 2 white, one latina, one afro and other asian, just thoughts. At this point I don't think Mattel listen to collectors at any age - I'm younger than you and what II see is - the more people complain - the worst it gets. I was expecting this collection to have each girl a different skin tone, color dress, 5 dolls of the same, be a beautiful collection like we don't have in 10 yeas, but its not. The other thing people must clear is not about what what they want, it's about what the company wants to offer - and Mattel is not doing good at any place, not in playline - not in collectors edition The more we complain, the less they improve.

Also I 100% agree with about the skin tones. In the Barbie groups I’m in on Facebook it’s ALL about the AA dolls. I’d have loved to see this doll with a dark skinned AA girl. I’m SO frustrated that the new AA MTM yoga doll looks Latina or biracial. I want a super dark MTM yoga girl that’ll fit some of their gorgeous AA fashionistas like the one in the rainbow dress or the one with purple hair.

Really appreciate the diversity talk. I find myself tending to ignore Mattels releases. Their playline stuff, while cheap and great for kids, lacks the creativity and detail but the collector stuff mostly serves the Aryan Princess fantasy you described. I would love to see more stuff like the BMR dolls. The only "collector" barbies I have are the Marvel anniversary Storm, Star Trek anniversary Spock, and a couple from the 2001 Harley Davidson line. The dude with the chaps and the black variant of a biker babe. Hoping to get a couple BMR's and Dia de los Muertos Ken someday. I would love a poseable silkstone like yours with deeper skin in a hot pink eleganza ensemble but Mattel does what they want, I guess.

@jeffreySteinman the doll hair Mattel used is Saran mostly, and Nylatex on some dolls on occasion they use nylon. A good example of nylon is the blue haired barbie extra. The real feeling hair is I believe saran nylatex is soft.

Honestly I think the current birthday wishes doll is equal to this doll. I prefer this dolls dress by Mr. Best but I prefer birthday wishes face 100% more. I think that this doll is nice but its a $30-$50 doll at most IMHO.

I completely agree with you about having more diverse dolls at the collector level. They certainly have enough material lying around to make multiple variants on non-descript/general collector dolls, meaning dolls that aren't connected to specific culture etc. Or at the very least, can we get more lines like the BMR1959 line. Say what you want about the fashion, but the diversity in not only race but body type>>>

Exactly! Diversity is also hair texture, skin texture and pigmentation like freckles or vitiligo. And thick bodies are good to include too. And differently abled bodies.

If it’s not related to a culture or meant to represent someone...we don’t get diversity. There’s no reasons why the 75 Anniversary only came in two variants. The material is there lol.

The dress is gorgeous! But it's not a Barbie! It's a Millie! Boo hoo! But she is appropriate for that dress. So, I'm torn. A Best in Black Silkstone would look awesome in it! In 20 years the pink elastic will dissolve. I have seen it in my reproductions vintage Barbie's. Shoes with the bow are a cute touch!

Plastic snaps only because a) that dress material is reuse from the 80’s era which always used white plastic snaps for the most part. And b) because if Mattel isn’t the one planet wide known company that is in support of the use of plastic for infinity and beyond, then I don’t even know anymore!

I don’t really get how doll companies like Mattel and MGA are using bs excuses with collector dolls or their doll lines that they can’t give us diversity and quality when they have in the past even though it was still not enough, but now it’s all backwards again with the collector dolls with pretty much no diversity, yet in some of the past collector dolls there was at least one other different skin tone then just white.

I watched your video , I find the doll very pretty and good quality, but I didn’t understand why all people ask mattel to make more made to move barbies bodies and articulations , I find these articulations on their bodies not very pretty , I would prefer a bendable legs instead of an articulated body that looks like a Skeleton, I would ask mattel to reproduce barbies from our childhood more than new ones with very low quality material . Most of the adult Barbie collectors collect barbies because of their nostalgic childhood memories not because of .the new dolls for me have no memories I like them but I don’t collect these dolls . The prices on eBay for the old 80s and 90s Barbies increased enormously because of Barbie collector market worldwide ! I paid for a PJ fashion photo Barbie more than 500$ loose !
