I think the hair is sticking because Aaliyah during that time always wore her hair covering her eye and they probably figured most will put her in a display case or leave her in the box

i'm a little underwhelmed. i assumed that the doll would have been designed after her "Try Again" music video look but, i guess this is meant to be Aaliyah circa 1996 in her "One In A Million" video. It's a great likeness and the doll looks good, but i don't appreciate the timing of its release. It comes on the heels of the Diddy trial controversy, there being a lot of buzz around Aaliyah being photographed at his parties, the mystery surrounding her tragic demise and people generally being nostalgic. The "Aaliyah" Barbie doll really could and SHOULD have been produced and released 10+ years ago. Meanwhile, i'm still waiting on Donna Summer. Somehow, i doubt that will happen. This Aaliyah Barbie came out of nowhere, really. i thought it was just a rumor. People were only talking about the doll being made just a month or two ago, and now it's been released?? And why not in the United States first?! This all feels very queer.

I had involvement in this project, so let me address some of the things you said. The ‘Try Again’ look, as iconic as it is, is a designer label piece, by Dolce & Gabbana, which comes with complexities regarding copyrights. Also, I personally feel that look would’ve been too predictable, and Aaliyah was never predictable… Lastly, I truly don’t understand why you or anyone else, keep trying to tie Aaliyah to any drama and controversy currently going on, just because she was also in the entertainment industry. I really wish people would stop doing that, as it has no relation to her. Her legacy & work deserves to be celebrated & this doll (which was planned way before any of that) is going to further solidify her icon status. THAT should be the focus & nothing else.
