A state of whimsy in required when watching an animated Barbie movie you have zero nostalgia for. This is based off of my nostalgia, but I'd say the animated Barbie's with the strongest stories are Barbie Rapunzel, Barbie and the Nutcracker, or maybe Barbie Swan Lake.

When I saw "Barbie" in theaters, in the flashback scene, I mistakenly thought that America Ferrera's character Gloria was supposed to be that little girl all grown up, I didn't realize that SHE was the mom playing dolls with her daughter in the flashback. 17:14 Fun fact: Back in the 1950s, when Ruth Handler (creator of Barbie) presented her idea of a grown-up lady fashion doll for little girls to the people at Mattel, all the other people working at Mattel were guys and initially rejected that idea. I believe that the movie was paying homage to that by having all the people working at Mattel in the film be men. And the reason she created Barbie was because like the movie addressed, her daughter Barbara was more imaginative when she played with her paper dolls depicting grown-up women vs when she played with her baby dolls in a time where dolls were only representing babies or toddlers. One of her nicknames for her daughter was "Barbie," so that's the name for the fashion doll that she went with that wasn't trademarked already (opposed to "Barbs" and "Babs").

I wouldn't start with princess and pauper to start the journey into the barbie universe. I would recommend Barbie 12 Dancing Princesses (which is an old one) and Barbie and the Mermaid Tail (which is a "new" one)

I am sure you have learned this since trying to watch "The Princess and the Pauper" movie, but in case you haven't, the story is based on Mark Twain's novel, "The Prince and the Pauper". In the book, two boys are born that look identical, but are not related, they switch places and learn about each other's lives. Disney also made a Mickey Mouse version based on Mark Twain's book. I really enjoyed "The Princess and the Pauper" when it first came out. Yes it has it's silly moments like the cat who thinks he is a dog, yes the animation is pretty clunky compared to more recent animated movies, but it is a charming movie. I hope that you receive that many likes on this video, both, because I want you to be successful, but also so you might give this movie a second chance. Giving your video a like.😊 Keep up the good work. I enjoy your video commentaries. 😊

The Barbie movie was awesome. I was surprised at the speech at the end showing that women feel exactly how we men feel too. You gotta be a leader, but be a team player. You have to be fit, but you have to say you want to be healthy, but be fit. Have muscles, but not too many muscles that you intimidate women or threaten other men, because you have to be part of the brotherhood. You have to answer for other mens bad behavior, which is insane. But never complain, never fail, never fall, never break down. Have money, but you can't ask for money. Shoulder everything, and no one ever says thank you or gives you a medal. And at the end of the day not only are you doing everything wrong, but everything is your fault. It's upsetting how our social structure created by the patriarchy hurts us all the same way, men and women.

I was a Barbie crazy collector as a kid and adult. So I had a lot of the old obscure toys. I even had an original as she appeared in the beginning. First grand kid & my parents divorced when that wasnt really a common thing so I got lots of guilt gifts. I had a Barbie room. I was too old for the movies but my sons watched the Barbie Nutcracker when they were very little. So the nostalgia was huge for me.

I think that it's a huge letdown that after this movie was released, they have NOT made an actual "Ken's Mojo Dojo Casa House" playset for adults. I think many fans of this movie would actually buy a "Ken's Mojo Dojo Casa House" playset if they had them. Whenever I go to Walmart and see that they only have your usual Barbie Dream House, I am reminded of the lack thereof of the Mojo Dojo Casa House. Allan was Ken's friend.

At the end of the Barbie movie when she goes to the gynecologist is that because now knows what it's like to be a woman? Barbie said that she didn't have genitalia in the beginning. As the movie went on she turned more into a human. Is that because she chose to be an imperfect woman instead of a perfect doll? Or was the point that it takes more than a vagina to be a woman hence, why she was missing one.
