In today's video, I talk about the amazing food options while staying at Barcelo Maya Riviera, which is the adult only section of the large resort Barcelo Maya Grand. There are 15 total resaurants in Barcelo and 11+ buffets. Due to covid, only the Maya Riviera (adult only section) and the Palace section are open. Hopefully soon travel will pick up and all the resorts and restaurants will open! As for right now, you still have the option to eat the Seafood, Steak and French restaurant in the Palace section or the French, Mexican, Japanese or Italian restaurant in the Adults only section which is mainly where I ate at during my trip. I will update everyone as time goes on!

Hi! Hopefully you can answer my question before I book it this week. If I'm going to stay at Barcelo Maya Palace, can I still have an access to eat at Barcelo Maya Riviera restaurants and buffet? If no, how much is the upgrade per person to eat there? Do I need to pay every time I eat at Maya Riviera Adults Only restaurant or is it a one time fee? Can the kids eat there too if i pay for the upgrade? thanks

Hi! Each time you eat the the Maya Riviera it is a $20 cost per person each time. The kids cannot eat there since it’s an adult only section unfortunately. Hope this helped!

Could you share a little more about desserts?? Did they have yummy desserts like ice cream and cookies?

They had a lot of cake or fruit topped with puddings. I can’t recall if they had cookies in the buffet but I know at the AO section they had some in the bar actually. The palace had all kinds of desert, including candy like gummy bears and rice crispy treats and chocolate nut candies. It was a huge sections of candies and pudding deserts, so I would imagine there were cookies there too!

And yes there was ice cream! They only had two flavors last time I was there. I believe just chocolate and vanilla and then toppings to add. Kids were just getting bowls of toppings :)

Hi, how is the room in tropical? I heard ac is not working good. Is it an upgrade if we want the room close to the pool?

The tropical is nice but it is not newly updated like some of the other areas. I’ve never had an issue with the AC. It always stays cold. It does turn off if you leave the door wall open. A lot of people bring damp rid to help with humidity. And yes the rooms closer to the pool are premium rooms so it is an upgrade!

My parents just got back yesterday actually. All restaurants were open besides the ones at the Tropical section at first and half way into their trip that section opened up. Everything was open besides the night club as far as extra activities. If it gets slow then then a section may close. Hopefully it will be good the rest of the year with spring break coming up and then summer vacations.

There is a guest services right near the check in desk. Do it as soon as you can to get the restaurants of your choice. They help book everything for you. There’s no cost as long as you are not eating at the upgraded resort. If you stay at the upgraded AO resort then you can eat anywhere for free among all the sections.

It is not! Each resort is about a 3-5 minute walk apart.

The dinner on the beach is 150 per person. The dinner and setup includes candlelight dinner on the beach, 4 course dinner for two, flower bouquet, strawberries covered with chocolate, bottle of sparkling wine, romantic music, and special room decoration upon arrival after the dinner. 😍

Hi! I travelled with a vegetarian and they had no issues. There are entire sections of vegetarian and vegan foods at the buffet and options at restaurants. You can cook pastas to order at the buffets so they do not add any milk products. The beach buffets did not have as many options because it’s a smaller selection in general. I recommended bringing a letter with you that is translated to Spanish saying your diet needs just in case!

You do not have to pay for any of the restaurants at the palace if you stay at the palace or the other 4 sections! You just have to pay to eat at the riviera restaurants if you stay at the palace ☺️ i do have another video that goes over which restaurants are in each section if that helps!

Hi Britt, great and informative video. We're hoping to go early Jan, '22 with our 24 7 22 yr. old adult children (separate room for them). We are Pescatarians (fish and vegetarian-no shell fish). do you think they can do special accommodations for us with meals? We do eat a lot of fish. Is the premium level worth it with an Ocean view? Thinking of a suite and jr. suite ocean main building.

Hello and thanks for watching! They will definitely accommodate your diet. I went with a vegetarian and she had no issues and plenty of options. I recommend bringing a card translated to Spanish stating your diet just in case a wait staff has trouble with their English. In general they were all good. I really don’t think the premium level is worth it for the ocean view. If you stay in the Maya riviera AO section the regular ocean view is stunning. Request a higher up room if you can. The premium level is on the very tail end of the building and it’s a lot of walking to get to the buffets and restaurants. The premium ocean view for the Palace section isnt very close to the ocean so I also don’t think it’s worth the upgrade. I like a direct ocean view :). I like premium for the included room service so it may be worth it if you do that a lot but it is a limited menu however they did have a couple vegetarian meals and a fish option as well. Hope this helps and enjoy!

If staying at the Riveria do we have to pay 20$ to eat at the Palace? I keep seeing from reviews the french rest is best, when do you recommend making reservations? @@tomisakin Unless something crazy happens (i don’t want to jinx the world lol) I imagine they will all be open by then. Most of the resort is open now! If you are staying at the Maya Riviera then you do not have to pay to eat at the palace. I recommend making reservations as soon as you check in. It’s located in guest services right down the hall that is next to the check in desk. If it’s a popular time, reservations can fill up since it’s at a lower capacity but that may also change by then. When you go to guest services ask to get more information on excursions. They sent us to a different room but this was prior to covid when we stayed at the caribe section and when we stayed at the Rivera section during covid we did not do excursions so I’m not sure exactly where it’s at. But they were able to give us a better deal for whale shark swimming than a outside price and also it was someone they recommended so I felt safer driving with them to Cancun. I’m sure there’s something good! And yes there’s a gym!

Right when you arrive after check in, I recommend heading to guest services to book all your dinner reservations. The beach dinner is an additional cost. I believe around $150 pp.

haha well tell your friend you only get so many reservations per stay. A 7 day stay is 4 reservations so if you wanted to do two in one day you could but im not sure you would want to waste it! If you book premium you get unlimited vouchers but its more of a cost. I haven't heard of anyone doing two a night but I am sure if you said you weren't satisfied and they had open reservations then it wouldn't be an issue! But you can go in and out the buffet as many times as you'd like!

Thank you!! And that would be nice lol. They did have milk alternatives! So somebody who had allergies to the same said that they brought a card with the Spanish translation of what they are allergic to with them. And when they got to the resort they made them a new card at the front desk (so if you forget it they have it but I’d bring one just in case) and told them to give it to the staff at the buffets or restaurants and that they walked them around to show them what they can eat and told the chefs and they made them a special gluten and dairy free dish. I do know that there is a generic gluten free section at the buffet as well. And congrats!!!

You can eat everywhere for free if you stay at the adults only riviera maya section. You have access to all 6 resorts. If you stay at the palace you can eat at all the resorts besides the adults only section. You have to pay $20 to eat there if you want. The other sections aren’t open right now but those 4 sections (tropical,beach,colonial and caribe) can all eat amongst each other normally but have to pay a fee to eat at the palace and the adults only section.
