BARCELONA CATHEDRAL

2023 MAY 04 73°F -- Barcelona's holiest place, Catedral de la Santa Creu i Santa Eulàlia, aka Barcelona Cathedral. Dedicated to the city's patron saint, Saint Eulalia, a 13yo girl tortured 13 times by the Roman forcing her to renounce her faith. A 14th century Gothic church with a Neo-Gothic facade. Very different from Sagrada Familia. This church is a Gothic gem, while Sagrada is Modernist wonder. A grand "antiquated" cathedral but not as exciting as Sagrada. A beauty in its own right for its richly decorated chapels, finely carved choir, tombs of Saint Eulalia and charming cloister with gurgling fountain and sunbathing geese. Other areas to visit: A rooftop terrace to get a panoramic view of the city. A museum showcasing the church and its significance in the history of Barcelona. Overall, a worthy visit for just 9-euros a person.
