This song is so peculiar lyrically at first but once you let go of that it is a fantastically affecting song. The atmosphere and melancholy vibe is just terrific. As l said a very peculiar song. I have teared up on occasion listening to it. I think l get it. I met John when l was 10. 58 now and my life has been downhill from there.

I was at the Weeley pop festival in circa 71 and watched the meeting of John Lennon ,Yoko and Barclay James harvest backstage on the steps. Can anyone beat that?

This is so much better than the album cut with the live Lees guitar solo at the end. John Lees demonstrates he's a more accomplished player than we may have ever imagined. Certainly one of the most effective, emotive, players to transfer that aspect thru the instrument, that I have ever heard.
@olearyma577 жыл бұрын
The fact that John Lees is a consumate player chrystallised in my mind in 1975 on hearing ' For No One '. Powerful reinforcement of that belif here.

How can anyone say that this is horrible? Obviously a person with poor taste in music. It's one of the most beautiful songs that BJH recorded in my opinion. The live version contains one of John Lees' best guitar solos.

I'll answer....I agree, the lyrics are a bit awkward as it initially attempts to set the stage, and tell the tale, recalling 1970, producer Norman Bates and such, but the song itself is well written and builds nicely to a wonderfully creative soaring guitar solo executed brilliantly here by John Lees ! That being said, it is hardly 'horrible'!

Norman Smith not Bates also known as Hurricane Smith who had a few hits in late 60's, early 70's

@MrPod15 Sorry my friend, but I have to correct your statement. That can't be a Gretsch. I'm almost 100% sure that's an Epiphone Casino. Although Lennon did use Gretsch as well.
