34 years ago..1984..I was an officer at sea when I called the love of my life from a scabby bar in Elefsis (near Piraeus) on shore leave from a tanker on a rare port call (communication from sea in those days was sparse and expensive) to be informed she couldn't wait any longer....and my arch enemy had stolen her away. I returned home when my trip finished and was lost. For the next 6 years we saw each other again on and off again in between others. Always knowing somehow we were meant to be together...but never did....this song brings me to tears every time I hear it....I played it more times than I can remember..... When her marriage fell apart in the mid 90's (1995) the first person she tracked down and called was me..... I was married with 3 children then... Mine failed also....and again the second one... I searched and found her again, again to find her in an unhappy relationship..... 2016......We met again that Christmas....For the first time since 1990.... The last 2 years have been the happiest of my life.... Two weeks ago we had a holiday together on the Isle of Skye in Scotland....almost the Honeymoon we never had...I proposed on her birthday in a remote cottage....we will get married February 2019. This song is probably the best BJH track ever and still gives me chills. Once it made me sadder than I ever thought possible....now it makes me sad only for the years we lost together......but makes me happy for the words it contains. They could never be truer.

The voices may have faded with time but the music and the emotion are still there. This is far better and with more meaning than Nights In White Satin ( although meant as a parody). Still the greatest love and lost love song ever written by one of the most underrated bands from the prog rock era ever. I love this song and will have it at my funeral. It means a world of sadness and happiness and world turned full circle to me. Love will come back to you if it is meant be..... Thanks John, and RIP Woolly, Les and Mel....

@Jessica Fletcher. I don't think John Lees would have ever imagined that he would be performing his music approaching/in the seventh decade of his life! It must have been hard for John to sing these songs in the original key year after year. John's songs are imprinted into the lives of the BJH fans and audiences. It's so good that your brother is able to step up and take over the lead vocal duties - and play bass. I salute him! I have read that John Lees is a little shy, so your brother takes the focus off JL. And JL and the band are touring this year! Good work Jess's bro'. Did I read that your brother and his colleagues in the BJH band worked with Clive Gregson as The Raggedy Arses in their downtime? You and yours stay safe and well.

@Jessica Fletcher. Thank you for your reply. BJH started for me with the "Concert For Berlin" album in 1980, and I worked backwards and forwards from there. Their music is fabulous. And as a bit of a "bedroom busker" on guitar I can scratch out a few of John Lees' songs! You may already know this. I read that JL is largely a self taught guitarist. He does alright by me! Stay safe and well.

I hope this small live audience appreciate how privileged they are to be there hearing this wonderful song and band live. Barclay James harvest may not have been one of the 'super group' prog bands of the 70s but they have stood the test of time better than most. The problem is that most of us now in our 60s that were overwhelmed with fantastic bands never knew how good we had it and maybe did not pay enough attention to the genius of BJH. We will never see their like again.
