Hi guys as a coach 💯 Barella MOM and then Riccardo Calafiori and 3rd pick Chiesa and Bastoni my 4th pick who had a top first half he did pick up a knock. I don’t agree with some of the subs to defensive players i would have put Fagioli on unless he wasn’t 💯 fit.

You know it seems as though Italy never get the respect they deserve coming into these major tournaments! The media always tend to want to say Italy hasn’t got the talent that the other giants of European football have, that they aren’t the team they once were mainly because the lack of a true number 9 and a true 10 like the ones we once had with the likes of Baggio, Totti, Del Piero. What I really don’t understand is can’t they see that even without the past champions we had up front we still perform well at major tournaments. I’m 44 and I lived in Italy as a child and as far back as I can remember Italy always seem to find a way in major tournaments, especially when the odds are stacked against them, or when the media counts them out. They always seem to get better as the tournament goes on getting better each game. Defensively we’ve always been the best in the world and I think they are very strong in the back again from Donnaruma to our back line and the defenders we have on the bench. We play as a team, as a unit in these tournaments! I believe we also have the best coaches in the world. As a die hard Napoli fan I witnessed first hand how good of a coach Luciano Spalletti is and I really believe he is the true star of this Italian side. Everybody wrote us off in 2021, nobody picked Italy to win but we did! I see the same scenario in 2024! We’ve historically always played well against Spain and especially Germany. The Germans would hate to see us in the knock out rounds. As far back as I can remember Italy is just a tough nation to beat too solid defensively and always too well coached to be talked about as an underdog or a bad team like the media always does in the beginning of these tournaments. By Thursday when we beat Spain their tune will change and we might start getting the respect the defending champs deserve. Forza Italia e forza Napoli sempre………………

I honestly think everyone is overthinking the Bastoni positioning in that goal. It was a brain snap, bad mistake from Di Marco - it happens. He never should have thrown it there. Glad we came back and won :) I think we can get a draw against Spain.

To be fair to Di Marco, from his POV when he was throwing the ball, Bajrami is totally hidden. Based on match highlights that I seen, from Di Marco POV, there were 2 Italy players + Bajrami as the third player in a straight line of sight. I think that why he didn't throw it long but short and slowly to Bastoni because he think there's no Albanian players in the area. I think Bajrami deliberately hid himself and successfully trick Di Marco. Bastoni and Donnarumma caught slightly unprepared. But the finish is not easy. Top corner.

Yep 100%, it transformed from 4-2-3-1 to 3-4-2-1. Quite brilliant tactical approach. Would love to see raspadori subbed on for the inside left position to attack that channel if either Pellegrini or Fratessi are subbed off Bastoni is the new Materrazzi, a legend for Italy and Inter as well. Still reckon Italy could line up with Bastoni-Buongiorno-Calafiori, if Calafiori could do a job on the right even though he is left footed

Although Calafiori impressed against Albania, i rather see Buongiorno and Bastoni for Spain game .. Imo offer much better defensive stability ..

the game thought that lot of things that we should be playing with a back 3 formation such as 3-5-2 3-4-2-1 or a 3-4-2-1 formation and we should play Federico di marco as left wing back or left midfielder and we should not be playing a 4-2-3-1 formation because this leaves the striker alone

That first goal was a reach gut punch, and I was thinking the worst when it happened. However, the way they played for the next 20 minutes was incredible. They controlled the game, and they were on the attack. I don't think anyone can say this is the Italian team of yesteryear, where it's all about defence and clean sheets. I love the attacking mindset, these are relatively young guys who can grow with the national. I think they played very well and if I could say an area of improvement, they need to finish better and be a bit selfish and take the shots. Although Scamacca did not score, I saw him pulling a lot of defenders, leaving others open. He played well imo
