I used to be a camp counselor. Whether or not we have degrees depends on what type of camp you’re going to. If it’s a sleep-away wilderness camp, odds are we probably do. Also, in my experience, the boy campers are far more likely to creep on the women counselors, though they might just be less subtle about it. If any children read this, don’t get your hopes up, we’re trained to keep a professional distance from you and we’re literally never supposed to see you again after camp.

hi, former male counselor here who worked at a sleepaway camp. interesting y’all had degrees I got hired at 16. I had the oldest boys cabin (13-15) because I “looked old enough” according to my camp director. the boys do talk about the female counselors but really only in the cabin, or in my case I was friends with a lot of the girl counselors so they would ask if we were dating/if I had a crush on them. and yeah, if I saw any of my campers outside of camp (I lived in the town the camp was in so a lot of the local kids I knew) I would avoid or keep it at “hi, good to see you, bye!”

Ok so here’s a little ramble vent thing!: I’m a young teenager ig and I’m like a camp counselor at this Girl Scout camp (I thought Girl Scouts was like basic white girl but it’s actually gay asf). In the area I live in there are lots of Girl Scout camping events where this handful of troops are invited to go every time, and I’m in one of those troops. There’s like 20 girls that I see at every event and they’re always like the common denominator ig, and so we all just know each other and are pretty close. We’ve all been camping together many times and have done this specific day camp as counselors a couple times before. Oh and they’re all pretty close in my age range except for a few seniors and a few sixth graders (they’re the youngest). Theres this girl who’s pretty socially awkward I guess (we’ll call her Red idk) and I’m pretty head over heels for her. We’ve done a lot of stuff together but there’s still some awkwardness there because none of us ever talk outside of these Girl Scout events. I wouldn’t say I’m in love with Red because I don’t know her super super well, but I definitely have a huge crush on her. Camp starts Monday and for a couple days now we’ve been doing camp training, and me and Red are paired together for a lot of activities and I’m one of those people who gets really nervous around their crush so I’ve just been making a huge fool out of myself!! I found out last sleep away camp we did that she’s ace and Pan and has a kinda-girlfriend. So good news and bad news. I think me and Red would make good friends, and there’s this other girl too (I feel so bad saying this bc I don’t want it to be like a “player” rebound type thing but whatever) who is in my troop and I think she might possibly maybe (strong on the maybe) like me, and I can see myself liking them back. So maybe there’s still hope for future me lmao. I think I should just put it out there that I’m not too hung up on dating, I think at my age I would never date anyone and might just be in the “talking” stage until I’m older 😭

As a camp counselor, yes crushes are normal. Don’t approach any of us about them if they’re on any counselors. I will gladly give the kids in my cabin advice on crushes on other kids but if it’s on a counselor it just makes everyone uncomfortable

I spent a few summers during college managing a ranch themed summer camp, where there was the normal stuff like archery and a lake but their was also horseback riding and whatnot. The number of times that a young girl in the 12-16 range would ask for my phone number while I was in my early twenties was honestly alarming. Since their options were basically me or my 10 guys, they went wild. I remember once I was in a secluded section of the ranch, splitting logs and stumps for firewood with a big ass axe. I'd been at it for an hour, so I'd taken my shirt off because at this point I was soaked in sweat. Imagine my surprise when I saw 3 little teenagers watching my from a fucking bush. I still have no idea how long they were there.
